I am wearing my flame proof suit in anticipation but I thought I'd show you my new toy. It's not exactly a replacement for the Z - I sold the Z and am selling our Tigra (Ebay link if anyone's interested) as we can no longer afford to run 3 cars (we have a 7 seater for the family too which we can't live without). So we needed a hatchback to run about in, that wasn't too expensive to run, but that was also a bit of fun for me to drive. So we ended up with one of these :-

Most of you will know anyway, but it is a Proton Satria GTi. 1.8 Mitsubishi Lancer engine (old Evo engine but without the turbo) with the handling and styling done by Lotus.

To be honest it is SO much fun! It handles like a proper little go-kart and has a nice rasp to go with it - I feel like a teenager again LOL :D

So, what do you think? Anyone got any experience of them?

I love those things, my ex's mum had one, if it did not have a proton badge they would of sold in millions!

Indeed, in this case the car really is a Mitsubishi (it's a Colt through and through) with a Proton badge - and Lotus handling of course.

Some people just can't see past that badge, their loss.

I quite like that tbh, looks clean. althought it may have a bit of a boy racer look to it, i bet its a whole different kinda fun compared to the Zed

nice

theyrs one in kilburnie(near me) its fast as f00k think it boosted to bout 275bhp fast on the twisties aswell

Turbo'ing them is quite common as it's so easy to do so there's a lot of fast ones around. And the twisties is what they were made for - SOOO much fun :D

Ah Protons, My Grandfather bless him, bought one of these brand new, his was green, the aeroback version.

He also bought one of these for his daughter, my mum, at roughly the same time, her's was red although it did turn pink in time :mad2: manual saloon version.

Both were run into the ground by other family members, mechanically rock solid with their mitsubishi engines but bodywork and devaluation forced them off the road, great heaters as I remember :cool3:

Yes I did, it was my first car

thats cool

when i was wee the culdi sak i stayed in had a old proton and a bluebird they always raced the bluebird won most of the time but they were both quick for what they were

I was going to get one of these, but the insurance is the same as a mr2 £800 for me (3rd car 2yncb) so i ended up with my 206gti. more power and only cost £350. i have no idea why the proton insurence is so high, think thats why it was a bit of a flop in sales?

Dave - The insurance is probably so high because the chassis encourages you to drive like a proper nut-job!! I'm paying about £300 with the Mrs on there too (9yrs ncb), it goes up if I take her off it.

Gary - they all come with a smaller Lotus badge anyway, and I don't mind the larger one TBH, at least it's justified ;) And the mud doesn't bother me any more, I'm a changing man LOL! Even took it for a thrash in the snow today - FILTHY!!

Noooooooooooo you cant have a dirty car get it washed and polished:yes:

did these have two little square exhausts Ian ?...there's one near me in silver that is in show room condition but turbo'd and nitrous'd ........its a squeeky quick little motor

I love em, i remember seeing them a long time ago when they first came out and thinking i'd like one if i could afford it. Not many production cars wheels fill the arches as well as they do stock and with the decent build quality and handling it's a bargain what you paid for it!

Glad to see you're happy with it buddy :) Should have the prop fixed on thursday afternoon so we'll have to pop over to your mate's next week for a quote on that bodywork - nearly put the jack through the sill last week changing the wheels(!) :x:

Love it to bits though and suddenly realised last night there's two 6 x 9s sitting behind my head not connected to anything  lol
