Apart from the love affair with the zed I also have a weakness for calibra'sI started off with a 16v redtop(c20xe) on a H plate but I went through a few I bought thgis one a 93 on the l plate this is how I bought her ,no tax,mot and looking very poor

she didnt stay that way for long,I got her home, and started to bring her back up to a much more presentable apearance

damianscamera005-1.jpg

I removed the old clothe interior and fitted in the leather

DSCF0505.jpg

I lowerd it by 40mm,fitted the remus exhaust system and my O.Z Super,t's,untill the engine decided to go bang so i bought a v6 calibra with a good engine but poor body

DSCF0504.jpg

DSCF0501.jpg

but before the engine conversion i fitted in the Astra GTE dash

DSCF0513.jpg

damianscamera015-1.jpg

so i was running around with it like this for a wee while

damianscamera067.jpg

and as i said the engine went bang and threw a conrod

so That was it the v6 conversion started ,here I am taking the doner engine out

damianscamera094.jpg

damianscamera095.jpg

the spare car also comes in handy as a shed, lol

damianscamera092.jpg

while i was taking both engines out I started to replace all the looms, I did this because instead of having on loom butcherd into the 16v body loom, I transplanted the body looms aswell,so it was done properly

first night that the engine was put in and started

I ten got bored with the black leather and i bought a nice 8v calibra for the creame leather

calibrat1007.jpg

and then i bought some vectra metal cam covers instead of the plastic calibra ones

calibrat1010.jpg

I got bored again and I used the clothe interiors velour bottom door cards and replaced the black vinyl bottoms for the velour ones with the leather creame tops

Wow you really got stuck in there lol. Did you do all that on the road? hats off to you if you did, the weather didnt look too great either, but youve turned her into a smart looking motor that probably goes like stink, well done.

i have always had a soft spot for Calibras, but never the guts to admit it out loud.:x:

... cor this place is sometimes like therapy... " Hi, my name is Paul, and I like Calibras..."

The zed looks in nice condition, how does it feel power wise compared to the Calibra?

yes mate it was all done in the layby, lol, crazy I know but i had another calibra in the garden aswell so i couldnt do it in there, and it was done in november, not by choice as the 16v engine blew up and at the time it was the only car that was on the road at the time, I had all intention of doing it in the summer but plans had to be changed, lol, so when i get all the bits together for my tt, it will be getting similer atention,my misses thinks I'm mad I just say its either a mistress or a car so she puts up with the cars.lol

because the obvious diverent drive train My old n/a was alot quicker than the calibra ,thats why I bought the red twin turbo, because i wanted more power, lol, the nissan has won me over ,I wished that I had kept the N/A as it was a manual, but I had to have the twin turbo ,lol

I know what you mean lol, mine is an N/A but after a few mods and lightening bits its alot faster than it was as an auto, but i will still get me a TT one day, maybe when ive finished mine. I would still keep the N/A as a daily driver and use the TT for the extra grin factor when i feel the need lol.

I just like the way the zedlooks and smiles you get for the money, and both cars seem to suffer from from the fact that the good ones out there are overshadowed,by the chavved up ones

I am just about to sort out the picture's of the rwd convertable calibra out and post them up

  • Author

After I built my v6, I decided that it would be fun to have a rwd calibra so i started to turn this

transam015.jpg

transam013.jpg

into a convertable

these are in no order but you will get the jist of it,lol

cali005-2.jpg

calibrachop2003.jpg

calibrachop2004.jpg

after i got it to that stage I decided that it was going to be rwd,so i did this to it

oh yes and cut up an omega estate aswell as the doner, lol

callyroadster018.jpg

I cut out the transmission tunnel grafted into the calibra's floor

callyroadster016.jpg

1235cal.jpg

callyroadster024.jpg

and because the owner of the unit never paid his bills it was cut short as the banks closed up on him and everything was stopped and because i couldnt get another unit in time I had to get it stored and the bloke who stored it scrapped it without telling me but while i was pottering with the calibra I was also doing another project

  • Author

and this was my other project,A very sad looking E30 bmw that needed a new quarter panel, and inner arch,Originaly a mate took it on to paint it,but he didnt get round to starting it so I ended up cutting off e rotting quarter, and welding in the new metal work and then he painted and it and made a complete mess of it I felt so bad for the owner by that time i had fell out with the painter because his work manship was poo,and he was just out to rob folke,so i told the owner to come and get the car,At least I know the work that i did wasspot on

impressive work, shame the RWD calibra cabby didnt get finished!

I love Calibras, my last one was a V6 DTM Edition (one of only 12 on the road) and before that I had a SE3 2.0 8v.I was on clubcalibra.com for about 7 years before I turned japanese and came on here.Only sold the DTM in September last year, and only because I wanted rwd!.

All very clever stuff mate.Have you got big plans for your zed?

A few plans for the zed, first one is to take it down the 99 spec, and splashes of series 4 spoiler, manual conversion, sort out the interior out a little, and that will do to begin with and then we will see what direction i will go from there, who knows?

iirc there is a pic of my dtm in one of my first posts on here.its a small world!.One thing that finished it for me with Calibras is me and the missus went to the billing meet last august and hardly anyone spoke to us, the whole thing seemed really clicky and most there had only been in the club 5 minutes!, at one point the missus felt really uncomfortble so I said sod it and we left.

I have went to billing three times first year I was like the spare part in the garage same the second but on the third at the vboa it was alright ,but as soon as I sold the calibra I was ostrasized and shunned especially when I bought the N/A zed a couple of the scottish lads still talk to me ,like v6steve,Ally and Fraz, but the rest never really did,Idid find alot of snobbery in the calibra community, And I cant be bothered with folke like that

nice work mate - thanks for sharing your story with the Calibrae! :D Up till about 10 years ago I owned a Cavalier GSi [not the first time I've mentioned it on this forum] and always fancied a Calibra, or an Astra GTE with digital dash, and there you are putting one in'tother! Some of the guys that worked at a bodyshop I used a few years ago took a white Corsa, converted to 4wd and fitted a Calibra Turbo engine to it. I think it was quite fast off the lights if I remember correctly...

  • Author

Aye the corsa would've been a flyer,I have been thinking about trying to put a digital dash out of a carlton into the zed, I will see further down the road if I decide to do it
