Sorry can't help with the differences, though i would assume the RS being more powerfull and possibly newer model.

Maybe search a turbo website.

However genuine T28's are or at least should be a 5 bolt turbo, the only exception i've seen to this is the chinese copies on ebay advertising a t28 to suit the Zed which had been altered to be a 4 bolt.

Obviously a T28R was on the S15 and lesser version on S14 and Pulsar.

yea - from what I could gather when I was researching turbos - a genuine T28 is a 5 bolt outlet - 4 bolts versions are basically T28 internals stuffed into a machined T25 housing & are meant to be poo! To be avoided!!

T28's are pretty old hat now & there are probably far better solutions to upgrade nowdays

you should be looking at GT range ones at least, and the GTX ones are starting to be available

instead of just picking turbo's, start be thinking about what your goals are in terms of power, response and where you'll be using it (road / track / drag)

The GT28RS (aka Disco Potato) is a really old design, and not officially a Garrett turbo. Pretty unreliable too.

A second hand S14 GT28 is a better choice, or an even more modern GT2871r.

I'm not hugely knowledgeable about turbo's, but it's just stuff I've read through on various forums.

yes, but the GT28RS actually works very well on the VG30 (in 0.64 AR trim)

on the other hand, the GT2871r is quite laggy - remember you only have 1.5ltr to push each one on.

These are big turbo's and need a fair bit of supporting mods. Comes back to how much power, intended use and budget

Agreed, no point in putting some massive turbo on, that 3 cylinders don't stand a chance of spinning up before you're out of revs. Personally IF I upgrade mine, I'm only aiming for about 14 - 18psi, most of my mods will be non-boost reliant, so my turbos won't need to be too big, rather they need to be bullet proof and spin up feckin fast.

I had a GT28 rsr tubby on my coupe it was one hell off a turbo. Was a 4 bolt good for 350hp and at full boost a just over 2000rpm

OK the car will mainly be used on the street and some track time later on

the reason i wanted the t28rs as its bolt on ..

dont want to be messing with clearance problems and pipe work and all the crap that gos with it

i do have a pair of manual turbos that can be rebuilt i was going to get them mod'd

thats why i asked the diffrents between R and RS ..

That's my problem too Mark, I want it road driveable and trackable, I want the turbos to spool up quick, but I'm not looking for mega boost. My consideration though is either rebuilding the stock tubbies (Of which I have a spare pair now of course) with 360 bearings and making them as lightweight (spool time) as possible etc. Or I buy some brand new tubbies that max out around 20psi and run them under pressure. Haven't even looked at model numbers for doing the second option though.

I have the gr2871rs with all supporting mods. Not what id call laggy. Although not had the full effect of them because I need new actuators (so not all supporting mods). But they boost very smoothly and progressively, mines used mainly on road with occasional trackday. And not much will touch it in a rolling start race. Do need massive cooling though, water and oil cooled so both rads will need to be up to it.

And I'm only comparing to a Z with standard turbos running 14psi. Fast, but a nowere near this beast.

Probably a random post, but just my opinion of the disco potato.

Cheers

Danny

If you want bolt on,no feckin around and similar spool up to stock then the z1 gt525,s may be for you.I have them and have installed several sets on peoples cars, capable of 450bhp + and not too expensive.

just pulled these from another turbo

Trim-T:75

A/R-T:0.42

Trim-C:51

A/R-C:0.49

what are the other specs of z1

They offer them in .54 or .63 ratio.I usually fit the quicker spooling ones .54. Alanz has them,Joelyp has them,Leo has them also.Check my rides 436rwhp before i ported my heads !! on a bolt up turbo.Mine are 4 years old now and still fantastic.Alanz has had his 3 years now and he still loves them.

Jimmer is right, go with a GT25 based kit for bolt on. Don't mess around with turbo's for other cars because it will be a load of hassle

yep gonna be 1100>1300 for both

could do with some cheaper ones ... lol

CHEAP = PAYING TWICE bud.Rebuilt tubs can be a gamble as can second hand ones,e bay ones well forget it so what you left with ...............

yes i'm more inclined to go with Bolt on and tried and tested

but if its gonna cost me a few quid i best get saving ..

Thank you James, another man that speaks with experience. They are not the best turbo out there by far but what they are is the best bolt up four bolt exit turbo youll buy.Hassle free,no fabrication or modification and great gains and reliability.

Out of interest where do the GT675RS tubs from Z1 fit in the pecking order/ease of fitment etc bud?
