I'm not sure it's worth going wider than the standard tyre, you run the risk of changing the profile which affects the handling and these cars are already fairly sensitive to tyres. Having said that some tyres 'look' wider than others, if that's what you're after, but if you want a noticable difference then IMO you need wider wheels.

Is it Jap or UK??? Jap spec cars have 225s and UK specs have 245s. Do not go any wider than this or you risk the tyre coming off the rim as the bead will not seat properly...

cheers guys,

its a uk model, so are 245s the standard tyres?. also what about the hight? 50s on the back and 45s on the rear?

Jap spec run 225/16 on7.5 wide wheels

UK spec run 225/16 front on 7.5 w wheels with 245/16 rear on 8.5 w wheels

I believe this is correct based on hand book.

so why do we have 50s on the front and 45s on the back, is this to keep the weight transfer to nthe back and keep traction, cos i thought you always thought it would be the other way round to give better handling?

Hi, Some of the Tyre sites go into this more but the 45/50 is the Aspect Ratio: - "A numerical term which expresses the relationship between the standing height of the tire and the cross section width. (Aspect Ratio of 70 means the tire section stands approximately 70 percent as high as it is wide between the sidewall.)". So with a different Width Rim you need a different Aspect Ratio to mantain the same level/height.

I am sure some of our gurus can add/correct and explain better than I, but also some of the Tyre Company sites have alot of information about all these tyre codings, etc. and worth a look. Cheers, Geoff
