Jet Black Smoke

I floored it this morning after she was fully warmed up and a large puff of back smoke came out. This only happend the once, did not repeat the next time I floored it. She is also very sluggish at the moment. Any ideas? Just had an oil change??

Have you changed your brand of oil?

Yes, some fancy 20-50 stuff that is used by McClaren and Williams to replace the 10-40 stuff that looked like water when it was drained. My mechanic thinks that I should stick to 20-50 since engine has done of 160000 miles. He's certainly not a cowboy since he does work for the above mentioned and looks after aboot 20 Z's for various people. I certainly have plenty of oil pressure (65-70 psi when warm at 3000 rpm)

Check the Coilpack connectors, PTU connectors and CAS connectors. Sounds like a lack of spark to me - black smoke is over-fuelling....

Hi Posidrive - interesting to hear of a mechanic who looks after so many Zs. Since McLaren are in Woking, is there any chance your bloke is anywhere near Heathrow?

TIA - Gio

Hi Gio,

He is out near Oxford/Abingdon. Probably worth the trip mecause he is so good. But damn expensive at £45 per hour plus VAT (but he's worth it). Can get away with the cost because he's always so busy!!!
