I have a little very portable netbook, a 10 inch Compaq, love it and is perfect for my needs.

My issue was slow browsing, I have tried a lot of things, cleaning registry, stopping things running in the background, etc but nothing would make the Internet Explorer pages load quicker bitch.gif

My internet connection speed is not the best with Sky so I was cursing this every time I was waiting the 30 seconds it took to load pages, it was painful, especially ebay, the 300zx site I had no issues with.

I thought I would give Google Chrome a go, some of you will already be using it I am sure and I know there are others, safari, etc.

I downloaded it in 5 mins and started using, just as a trial really but I soon realised it was much much quicker than IE8 and soon I had migrated over my favourite websites bookmarks

Now I use it all the time, I can still use IE8 if I so wish as I now have the choice but this is never going to happen as my browsing and time I spend as easily halved

Just thought I would share and recommend as my laptop now feels like it's brand new, so come on in the water's lovely happy0144.gif

I've used firefox for years now and never had any problems..... load ad go

IE8 decided to install itself so I thought I'd have look..... Gave up after half an hour when it was a question and answer session about how it was to be configured.... Don't want anything that sets out to be all things to all users...

Shame Microsoft forgot the KISS principle !

ditto :)

IE8 is old and can't really be compared, IE9 is better and has been out for ages. Still, chrome is nice and fast I use it now after giving up on the shambles that Firefox has become.

Now reload the netbook with Linux, as it was probably designed to run that and not windows anyway, then you'll REALLY know the speed it can produce :D

I have a 7 inch Asus and that was Linux, I have got windows professional on it and does perform very well, pretty quick but in this case 7 inch is just not big enough :innocent:

FYI, the compaq came pre installed with XP.

Yup, the operating system Microsoft retired, then brought back when things like the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) scheme came out and netbooks started running Linux on them, not only did they bring XP out of retirement, they only charged £10 per licence because they were afraid of losing access to an entire market with the WAY overly bloated Vista and 7 :(
