a mate of mine bought a twin turbo z few weeks back,as he never drove one before he didnt realise the turbos werent kicking in at all..the stock boost clock needle dosent move, also theres a pair of dump valves an they dont work. he took it to a mechanic that works a bit with supras and the odd 300zx (not many zx specialists in ireland!)he said the consult diagnostics showed up nothing and the problem is drivers side tub seized.he also stated the other tub was working fine and boosting?i find this hard to believe since bov wasnt making noise and dosnt feel like its boosting? mechanic is trying to get out of fixing car for sum reason, ant taughts?

has he checked the actuators? if the arm has fallen off then the wastegates wont close and cant build boost

Ok its very likely the mechanic is correct, this is a more common problem than you may think, however for technical reasons its usually the passenger side that seizes.

As one turbo is now stopped, all of the boost from the working turbo is lost past the stalled turbo as it recirc`s through the connected intakes.

An easy test is to remove the large pipes into the throttles one at a time, start the engine and place your hand over the metal pipe from the intercooler, rev the engine and you should feel air pressure /boost, trying both sides will tell you which one is at fault, the dump valves will not work as there is no captive boost.

Time for turbo replacement
