Need to get a dremmel type tool me thinks. Any recommendations to cheaper alternatives and the type of accessory kit that might come in handy. Thanks peeps.

Cheers Baz. Just been using 60,80,120 grit paper. then a 180 wet and dry pad. Then peek and autosol. It's coming on okay for a first attempt I reckon.

Still a fair way to go yet though. Been pondering doing a plenum so thought i'd see how I get on with this first.

are these alumnium mate.

always thought they were steel

Don't know :surrender: Am I wasting my time?

If you have a drill then I'd certainly recommend halfords alloy+copper+brass polishing kit, you get two mops one soft and one a bit harder, both with corresponding compounds. The kit is under £15, did my plenum and it looks great but it does take a long time.

if its steel mate then yes, sort of.

you cant really lacquer over polished steel as it has no adhesion. however the expensive part of getting something chromed is the polishing so if it is steel then it would be ideal for chroming.

looking at the pics though it looks a little more like alloy. ill go check mine mate

LOL, I've been searching for a magnet!! Oh well, i'll crack on with a plenum :cool3:

you could do with a DA sander and some 1000 gritt lol, believe it or not, cheap toothpaste works well on softer metals. if you wer really on a budget lol. ive always used autosol, good stuff.ive bein thinkin about doing my plenum too but, hours and hours of rubbing.dont fancy it right now lol maybe after xmas to work of all the food im gona be eating lol

yep they are steel. Nissan usualy put a Yellow passivate coating on them. Once you go thru that(in the first rub with paper ) you are on to fresh steel which will rust as soon as it gets damp.

They need to be .......

chromed. powder coated or just painted to protect them.
