are there air filters in the wheel arches?

someone from a Nissan main dealer told me there are air filters in the wheel arches, is this true? I ask this question cus there a sound coming from kind of around the wheel arch. Sounds like something blowing when the car is idling and reving, thought it might be somthin at the front exhaust. Though the sound is coming from the wrong location for that. anyone got any suggestions?

I believe they are the AIV assemblies which have their filters mounted in the front wheel arches

There are AIV valves behind the driver side wheelarch I think!

but they normally gurgle.

There is an AIV valve behind each front wheel. Take off the plastic covering the rear of the front wheel arches and u'll see them. They are for emissions and feed additional air into the exhaust at tickover as reqd to meet emmisions regs - usual Nissan overcomplexity.

Typically they gurgle at tickover due to condensation that will clear if you drive the car a bit. If you hear a blowing like an exhaust there is probably a split in the piping from the exhaust to the aiv assembly. Look under the car and you will see a 1 inch dia. pipe running from each exhaust to the wings on each side.

AIV valves can be removed without much bother, and do not otherwise affect performance. Thjere is a how-to on TT net.

testing

Thanks for the info I'll check to see if there are any holes as the idle is bad.
