Thanks dave

Does the lockout require a hard reset or does it reset itself after a small while?

Does the problem occur ar random or when using the hot water

Does the pressue gauge show a good reading ( between 1 and 2 bar)

This boiler has a tendancy to lockout when using hot water for several reasons and tracing what it is can be costly if you follow the usual plumbers method of changing parts until it works,if you do use a repair guy get a dedicated heating engineer to take a look.

Check that your pump is working properly. I had a Vokera and the pump kept seizing. I had to spin it manually to get it to fire.

man of many talents jeff?

it seems to cut out when ever it feels like it. Normally when i want a shower. I have reset the bolier a few times as the insruction manual says and also by switching off at the mains and the boiler will work for a while then cut off on both HW and CH. Pressure is good its actually above 2 bar and does not work below 2 bar for some reason! I think the pressure release vavle is not working but dont know how to test it.

I second that, in my experience plumbers can be less diagnosticians and more fitters at times. At least a dedicated heating engineer is likely to know the boiler and also likely to know what is causing the problem.

ok bit of an update. After reading on tinterweb about the condensation valve/tank i found that mine was blocked so i cleaned and empty this and this seems to of sorted my hot water problems. However im still having problems with my central heating. The heating seems to work when on full but when you ask it to be on a lower temprature the boiler only works for about 20 - 30 secounds then cuts out and i have a flashing green light for a couple of mins then same again cuts in for 20 - 30 secounds then back to flashing green light ( flash's are about half a secound apart).

Anu ideas anyone as im using s*** loads of gas at the mo!

if ya get stuck, have a look on the british gas website to see if they still do the one price fix, usually about £170 great if it's gonna cost more to repair, not so great if not, but atleast you know what your gonna pay

without meaning to sound like a plumber, sounds like you need a new boiler :)

hope not its less than 4 years old

is it not still under warranty?

I cant help with the boiler but i've a wee suggestion:

Your normal house insurance wont cover you for a broken, damaged boiler. However you can get homecare cover with British Gas. I think its about £10-£15 a month. That covers you for any repairs that your boiler needs. I think you can get cover for your whole central heating system. You also get an annual service included.

My point being, take out the homecare now. Put up with your boiler for a few weeks then give them a call and say your boilers packed in.

I will try but i want to rule out simple things first really as ill be pissed if i pay £170 and it turns out to be a £7.99 NTC sensor or something silly. I dont think there is much wrong with it as i have hot water so the pump and burner etc are all working as they should

I've got a Valeo and not sure if its similar bit the exhaust fan has two plastic (design fault, but saves cost) scoops that feed the pressure switch...These feed air to the pressure switch and ignition only occurs when the switch is triggered. These plastic scoops get hot and brittle and can obviously interrupt the ignition cycle (basically to ensure no that the fan is running prior to ignition, to ensure no combustion gases build up)...

Prior to any of this though, if you're competent it's worth taking the cover off and opening the Flu and making sure this is clean and clear of any build up, as this can also effect the ignition cycle if gases are not being exhausted properly and there will usually be some sort of sensor to detect this...
