I've got an oil leak that seems to be comming from the front of the gearbox underneath. The oil leak has become worse over time. So now I might have a chance of finding it.

Just now when I started the car up noticed that there where air comming from the small hole in front of the gearbox. Could this be caused by the seals between the engine and gearbox? I'm pretty sure air is not supposed to come out from the gearbox:whistling:

Sounds like rear crankshaft oilseal is leaking.may be worth checking the crankcase vent system is clear, as if its blocked it could be causing the block to pressurise and force oil past the seal.

crankcase vent system ?? what, were, how?

I am new to zeds.. but surely they have some sort of crankcase breather system, every other car ive owned has one.on v6 gm engines (c25xe calibra engine for example) a blocked breather can cause camcover seal leaks which fills the sparkplug holes with oil, which is a real pain to sort out especially in the rear bank of cylinders :(

Well, none of the spark plugs is covered in oil. seems perfectly fine. Could someone explain what this crankcase breather system is??

pcv system, lots of little rubber hoses around the plenum balancing the pressure.

Its v6 vauxhall motors that fill the plug holes with oil!!!, I gave that as an example of the type of thing that can happen if engine breather block up.....on engines in general.

Had a pcv problem on mine recently.drivers side one was stuck and was causing the engine to pressurise on boost.Lee Dent found it by testing for boost leaks, as he pressurised the system you could hear the leak and feel the leak when you took the oil filler cap off.cleaned both pcv valves with carb cleaner and put it all back together and was perfect after that.

If you have the same problem it may have blown your crankshaft oilseal.if im wrong im sure someone will correct me :)

How long are the pcv supposed to last? I've driven my car about 19000km the last three years. Just been sitting in a garage during the winter. The engine is overhault and has done 19000km. changed the all the pcv hoses then.
