coolant bottle...

Okay..I sometimes have a leak from my coolant bottle. Not from over flow pipe. Think it's the rubber seal which looks screwed( the coolant bottle splits in half)...no loss from radiator at all. Is this something major causing this or just a silly seal?

Stuart,

Which rubber seal? I'm trying to remember any on the bottle and I can't think of them.. I was fairly sure it was just a long plastic tube (that the dipstick affair goes into) that is a push fit into the main body of the bottle (yep, they are two seperate pieces)..

And if it's not emptying then it's not too bad - that part of the system isn't under pressure, but the coolant system can circulate coolant in & out of it as an overflow/reservoir depending on pressure & level, so best to have it half full at least.

Thanks Az. Yeah it is a two piece push fit bottle. But the top half is loose. Whether the previous owner decided to fit a rubber band to help tighten I'm not sure. The car isn't getting hot and just now and again looses water from the bottle. Looked at the level though and it is way too high..so looks like that's my problem..Duh! Thanks again matey.

No problem Stuart,

My bottle is (FYI) filled to around about the top of the dipstick - but not so high that I can see it without taking the wheel arch liner out smile.gif

If you're running hot, it could be pushing coolant out of the system into the overflow, filling it up till it comes out..

Let the system cool down and keep an eye on your coolant level, make sure it's not going down in the radiator - you could have a faulty radiator cap that's opening under too low a pressure for example, though that normally makes the car run hot..
