October 9, 201114 yr Hi all, I cant seem to find a guide to replacing shocks. I've got a set of KYB's to go on and want to read up on it first before I wade in and cock it up LOL. Any guides or just a brief how to would be great. Many thanks, Rob Oh and by the way, less than a month to go now woop woop LOL.
October 9, 201114 yr Fronts are easy enough, 19mm (I think) bolt at the bottom, holds it to the hub and 2 12/14mm (Can never remember which) hold it at the top. Jack the car up, undo the bottom bolt, loosen the top bolts, push the strut off the hub and take off the top two bolts, then wiggle the shock out of the arch and replace. Rears are not as easy, you need to remove the plastic coverings inside the car that cover the strut top, so, remove plastic sill cover, remove rubber seal up door B pillar about half way, remove rear seats completely, undo all screws that hold the rear quarter door panel in, remove all screws that hold rear plastics in the boot, remove all screws that hold the plastics in over the strut top, loosen off the two 12/14mm bolts at the top of the strut, undo the big 19mm nut and bolt that holds the bottom of the strut to that hub, push strut off hub, undo top bolts completely, wiggle out. When replacing, use gaskets provided with new struts for the strut tops, or in lieu of them if there are none, a thin bead of silicon around the top of each strut and clean off the area on the car where they will sit. You may well need a trolley jack to help you manouvre the hubs back into place on the new struts, so make sure it isn't supporting the car when you do this. Hopefully I'm replacing the fronts on Roses car later, I can try to take some pics if you like?
