Water Pump

Hi guys..

Anyone had a new water pump fitted??

Have had coolant leaking problem for a week or so and is getting worse - leaks from somewhere roughly in the centre of the underside.

Took it to a local place and they said the only place it could be leaking from in this position is the water pump.

I've read on here before about the inlet to the pump going, so I kinda beleive him, but just wanted to check with anyone else with similar experience.

He can get me a new pump for £47 (sounds good.....) but said it's a git to fit and labour would be quite high - he also said he might as well replace the cambelt while he's there as it's in the same area... is this right?? Or is the water pump in fact piss easy to get to and he's having a laugh??

Any advice welcome!!!!

Cheers all

Steve

Nope, it's all true. There are also a couple of short water pipes that will be uncovered whilst getting to the water pump. Now they could be leaking and would be worth replacing while your there.

Some info here :- http://www.ttzd.com/tech/timingbelttech.html

Yes agree with Andy on this one,It would be crazy not to replace the two hoses,Tezza had water pissing out the cambelt cover, and it was these two hoses not the waterpump.

Hello Mate,

Completely agree with the previous comments, as I have just replaced them myself. You can view them if you get a torch and a mirror.

If you follow the housing on which the temp senders sit to the block, they split into three. Two outer ones are short lenghts of rubber hose, mine were leaking at the union with the inlet.

Good Luck,

Mark

Cheers guys...

OK I've booked the car in for Tues for a couple of days - not Nissan, but a different family run place not too far away. Its the same garage that has sucessfully done the cambelt, starter motor and alternator when the previous guy owned it.

He reckons about 5 hours labour, comes to about £200. I've ordered the pump from Nissan (NO £25 CHARGE NOW>>>COOL!!!!) but will wait for mechanic to tell me if it needs pump or is just hoses. If need pump, will go back to Nissan and buy it... simple!!

Cheers again

Steve

I had three Z31s and changed the water pumps on all three. Two leaked badly. The third was a precaution.

When I got my Z32 I had the timing belt changed and while everything was apart replaced the water pump which cost about £40 and there was no extra labour cost.

I understand that you have to strip quite a lot down to change the pump and so doing it at the same time as the belt seemed a good idea.

If i was you id replace the water pump anyway for an extra £50+ 30mins it could save you another £200 + if the water pump goes in the next 6 mths, I rebuilt my engine

Checked the old water pump it was fine 12 mths later(8000miles) it started to leak ive just replaced it again it took about 5 hrs.

hope this comment helps.
