Zed tried to kill me today!!......... again.

Was jacking the zed up onto ramps on all corners, I did the front and had the back lowereing down on to the ramps and the bloody thing rolled of the ramps straight into me :scared: I manged to catch it with my side and stop it rolling any further as it was in danger of going straight into my garage taking me with it.

Don't have a clue how it happened as it was solid and heading for a perfect landing on the ramps when it suddenly lurched backwards on to me.

Anyway, turns out I was lucky and the jack hadn't slipped but had rolled backwards with the car. The only damage was a bit of a kink in the bottom of the sill joins at the back, caused by wedging on top of the ramp. I'll hammer it back to shape tomorrow :)

I can just imagine in a 1000 years time that mass graves of zed's with skeletons in them will be found all over the UK  Wonder what the locals would think?

Your right mate, must admit it did scare the sh1t out of me and it happened without warning too. Jacking a car is a job that is very easy to do but can go so wrong so quickly with deadly results.

Glad you are ok mate, I jacked my Z up the other week with the engine crane from the anti roll bar as my jack doesnt lift very high, I forgot that the handbrake was still off. I recall the comedy moment of the crane tipping and me going flying, luckily there was no-one watching!

But as yowser says you have to be careful, anything can happen and these are big heavy & dangerous weapons when things go wrong.

my nissan jack gave way on me. I was just about to slide under a little to get the axle stand under there then all of a sudden the car droped to the ground, lucky i only had my arm under and you know how low my zed is. made me jump and swear

I checked the jack and it was the nylon thread on the end had striped and the jack would just slide up and down with ease :wack:

yeah there is no excuse. the chocks are in the boot lol!!

Mine was a differant situation :(

best to always chock the wheels when jacking guys ;-)

Just what i was going to add..use bricks blocks of wood anything, and do things very slowly and give yourself an escape path if possible. I`ve had mine roll back when lowering..once was enough.

Normally I do use chocks when lifting the zed but as the front wheels were already sitting on the ramps and it rolled off while I was lowering the back wheels on to ramps, there was no way to chock the wheels..

Yep ramps can be dodgy, i always use axle stands now, maybe lifting the rear 1st in future with the fronts chocked by the ramps, least then you can lock the wheels in gear and less likely to give enough roll unless the ramps are really high. I`ve actually done one side then the other in the past as was on slight incline. Always dodgy though no matter how it`s done.
