Guys I am not trying to stir the pot up, break rules or cause trouble but this place needs some "change" going forward if it is to be any good longer term.

I have seen that "opinions" and "suggestions" are often not met with open arms but more than often you just get "its already been discussed" or beaten with a virtual stick. I often sit by watching this going on and never comment like most users. But it has got to a point where I am just coming here less and less and will not even renew my paid membership.

So here is my open and honest "opinion" needed to keep this place functional for a few years yet. As a Zed owner and member here for a few years that has never caused any trouble I am putting my best foot forward with it "in the spirit" of the place. I have enjoyed the site at times but this stuff drives me mostly away these days to more friendly surroundings.

1. Accept peoples opinions, dont delete or dismiss them off hand just because you dont like them.

2. the levels of Mods compaired to users on here is really high, do you really need so many? I run and own sites with millions of members with like 5 or 6. Having to many makes for an appresive site.

3. No one has ever explained the "club funds" thing in any clear and conceise way. If whoever owns the site keeps the money then fair enough. just fess up and say but IMO this place represents very poor value for money these days. Spend it or reduce the fees IMO you really dont need 60 years of running costs in the bank (if it is). I mean most of the members would be well approaching 100 by then if you stopped charging tmoz?. And no I am not a tight git anyone that knows me knows that the money for me is incidental.

4. The levels of rules and censorship on here are akin to George Orwells 1984 "you will do this" "you cant do that" "we have deleted that". It often reminds me of reading a German WW2 Newspaper that has been censored to bits.

5. I know that preferential treatment has been discussed and its obvious "in my opinion" that it goes on however you spin it. Please remember that it is the members that make any site, and without them this place will be a "load" of mods here until their cars ware out. You need to treat EVERYONE the same no matter what...

6. You really need to make this site work on iphone and Android it will cost next to nothing to do but its the way forward.

7. A mobile APP would also be useful

8. Have a steam room and DONT mod it, its not an accident that most sites have one of these. Could well help you regain some good will.

Good stuff

1. I have got to know some decent people on here, some have helped me and others I have helped out.

2. I have found that club spirit can be strong at times and that is encouraging.

3. I love my car and appreciate any advice that I have had on it when I built it.

According to public stats the site only gets just over 500 hits per day now, it is on a hiding to nowhere unless some changes are made and accepted.

If you think that my "opinion" constitutes a public burning on the stake then it further reinforces the points I am constructively trying to raise here. Take it in the spirit it is meant to be in "constructive" :sweatdrop:.

I have read through the lengthy AUP etc and cant see that I have done anything wrong unless this can somehow be broad brushed as "anti club spirit" or something?.

But if anti club spirit is spending half hour making suggestions then I really think that constitutes "anti member spirit" and reinforces points raised above. I have never been rude to anyone on here, caused any trouble, or been a problem of any kind.

I think most people have issues and very few comment about it for above reasons, maybe a private poll an above points would give a definative answer?.

Sorry, but that is just a terrible response.

I would like to say that the JAE improvement thread REALLY infuriated me, but I chose not to comment - for the above reasons.

I have considerable web/mobile experience as well as being Entrepreneur of the year semi finalist. I have offered to help in the past in any way possible but it has fallen on deaf ears. I dont want money, but am happy to give you a bit of time to help things move forward. I have over 30 technical, design, SEO and support staff at my disposal that can give help and advice to get some of these technical issues sorted out and attract a few more members.

With all due respect mate, whether you are a new or old member, we all have a right to voice our opinions. We all count as 1.

What your statement implies is that the longer you've been around then the more rights you have?

Always open to suggestions and ideas what club isn't and its one for the committee to look into but as the biggest and best 300zx club in the country I think we are not doing to bad how many hits are you getting on your z club?

nah mate, just sick and tired of people stirring thing's up, the forum has been fine for month's then all of a sudden it's kicking off

this post along with the rest will most likely be pulled

Thought police strike again by the looks of it, dont bother banning me I am walking. One less "trouble maker" to worry about lol.

Guys, surely we can all discuss stuff and come up with good ideas without it turning silly? I certainly don't want to stir things necessarily, but i also feel that people do have a right to voice their opinion... Free speech and all that?

I hope this thread is allowed to stay.

Ive been a member on here since 2005 and i agree that over the years it has got less member friendly for opinions.

There were alot of comments removed fron the JAE improvement ideas thread, mine included when there was no reasonable justification for it.

I would like to see a modernisation of how the club is progressing becouse it is for the most part a great place.

But there is imo a certain moderator who is too heavy handed for my liking and i now know of 5ppl who feels the same.

hope it can get sorted and get this place back to how it was in the good days.

and is that heavy handed mod me then?

constructive criticism is fine, if it helps the club grow and develop to become better and more enjoyable, then no problems.

But recently a few people have tried to change things to suit them or get their point across without listening to any good advice given.

Rules are there to protect us all. To try and keep the place running smoothly is not the easiest job, trust me. But for a tiny few who want to cause trouble, purely by starting a thread just to wind others up, will not work. the end result is that member getting a holiday.

I have been on here for a while as a member and as a mod, i get on with anyone who gets on with me.

But if a couple of people want to ruin it for others they will be removed.

This place is great for help and advice and the people. I have made a lot of friends on here, and gained loads of knowledge.

Your points are fair and i will forward them on.

stu

Madmax, I think you make a very good point.

Stella, even if you can brush aside the fact that people shouldn't have an opinion, there is no going forward in staying still.

What I mean is, even if the forum is great, it does no harm to hear suggestions for improvement. An iPhone app? What a great idea! Surely worth discussion?

Posts 1 and 2 pretty much sum it up. A well worded and thoughtfull post encouraging discussion on possible site improvements with the offer of technical assistance from the owner of possibly the nicest Zed in the country.

Met with the inciteful response from a "super" moderator.

Madmax was trying to move the site forward from what I can gather. Sometimes embracing change is a good thing.

As ever, just my opinion.

Guys can we stick to the suggestions raised please if your happy say so (I can take it on the chin). If you think that any of my suggestions could be beneficial for "club spirit" then feel free to voice them. The main thing with this thread was to try and help the site move forward.

Stellaz your last post could be seen to be antaganising bud (in the nicest possible way).

Thought police strike again by the looks of it, dont bother banning me I am walking. One less "trouble maker" to worry about lol.

Its a free country max but I dont understand whats going on last year at JAE it kicked of here now certain members are at it again. Them that want to go can go but dont make a big song and dance about it. I wondered why you didnt subscribe again and now I know why and you want to go out with all guns blazing. I along with others know of your club so good luck with it.

I have two full time app developers in the office, one of the guys won an Apple design award and the other is an expert on Android. I can ask them to speak to any developers that you appoint if that is helpful?.

A large proportian of traffic comes from Apps these days, Im guessing just having free apps in the stores will double traffic and new memberships on here based on my own experience.

I am more than happy to pay my subs to this forum, infact I would be happy to pay more - if there was a tangible benefit. I, personally, would like to see more forum-based get togethers. The Zedworld bashes are the highlight of the meetings I generally attend, but I don't think its fair to expect, or ask, them to do more. I would like to see my membership fee being used to fund maybe 2-3 annual club meets every year - not necessarily JAE or other big Jap shows, but our own individual club meets.

The i-phone/mobile app thing sounds like a very good idea. Even if I'm stuck in the last century technology wise:-

Perhaps a club meeting at a mutually agreeable venue would help to put a lot of this to bed.

I appreciate that it's not as easy for some to make the time or cover the expense of such a meeting but maybe by organising a meeting in the future, at a mutually convenient venue where individuals are able to air their views or concerns in person, it might actually help to bring clarification to certain misconstruded comments/intentions made by individuals and possibly bring closure to some issues previously mentioned.

This is just one option obviously and I would quite happily chip in to pick up individuals en route (I could carry 6 additional members)

I for one don't want to see good members walk away in disgust

Gary It has nothing to do with it, if I wanted to flounce I would do it in better style than this. My time is my most "valuable" asset and I would not be spending it on here making suggestions. I own a multi million company I dont need to get power kicks wasting time making posts on here to cause trouble bud.

Gary you never answered my question do you somehow think I own the other site or something?. On my mothers life I dont so why say that?

Well I think the smartphone app is a great idea. Surely anything that makes the site more accessible is a good thing for all?
