door alignment

my drivers door must have dropped a bit. The upper door catch (that secures the seat belt) is scraping into the pillar metal. I have tried loosening the door bolts and repositioning the door, but it was only a temp fix and didn't seem very scientific to me. is there a proper way to align the door properly?
