mph/kph

I've just bought this car 300Zx TT UK model L379 XLM. The speedo only goes to 110mph and the mileometer reads in km. When I bought it the turbo gauge was not working and this is in 0-700mm/hg not psi. It suggests it is an import but I've got a full service history. Strange isnt it. I found the fault with the turbo meter - the fixing screws had been removed from the printed circuit board of the dash. The question is where can I get the correct speedo gauge and turbo gauge and how do I convert it to read in miles not kilometres. I used to have a 300ZX many years ago K300 CMJ so I am familiar with the car but at the moment I'm baffled. The service history shows that the instruments were changed. The car was originlly owned by a leasing company.

Id say the car is either an import (and they are running a good con on it) with a knackered delimiter, or a UK car that has had clocks and ECU replaced with jap ones which is equally strange.

Id say theres deffinatly a Jap ECU in it, cos its got the 110 limit, this happens regardless of what speedo is on (so long as it isnt chipped). Thats incredibly strange, id say try a UK dash to start with.

Check the chassis number on the plate (assuming the log book matches etc.) the import chassis number is shorter than the UK one (so my insurance co. told me when I insured the import pre-registration)

Hi Howard,

No use speculating whether or not your ZX is an import or not. If you're really concerned then check out AndyP's website (http://www.300zx.org.uk), there is a lot of info on what differentiates a UK Zed from and Import one. You need to sort your speedo problem out ASAP (as it is technically illegal to drive around with the instruments showing the wrong measurement on a UK registered car.) The best way I can suggest, and I've done this on my own Zed, is to find yourself a UK speedo cluster from a breakers - should cost around £100. Hook it up and see if the speed readings are correct. If not, and I suspect it may not be, then get yourself a speedo converter from the ZedCenter - £85 - and this will sort your problems (as well as establish that your car is infact a Jap-spec Zed.)A pleasant side effect is that the cruise control will work beyond 62mph and the annoying beeping noise is removed as well.

Hope the above makes sense and is helpfull. Welcome to the club! smile.gif

Cheers,

Danny

It might be worth getting an HPI check or inspection done, the problems with your car sound very fishy. Does the rear bumper have fog lights sunk into it? Is the rear numberplate standard U.K. size? The worry is if somebody has got the details,VIN plate and service records from a writen off U.K. 300 and used them on a stolen Jap 300.

I'm sorry if this causes unnessasery concern but you need to find out.
