Hi Guys, this one is for the teccies out there :) I`ve posted some pics of my Android tablet because I`m having problems getting a GPS signal, it has an external antenna, anyway after trying everything software wise I decided to take it apart and have a peek inside to see how it ticked, to my surprise the GPS circuit board doesnt connect to anything? is this strange or do the gps signals use bluetooth or similar, seems a bit strange to me

Strictly speaking it should be wired up/soldered/connected to the motherboard, I haven't heard of a gps unit using bluetooth to communicate with the motherboard before, but it is feasible to do so, lots of in-car GPS units are designed to connect to the device by infra-red or bluetooth for obvious reasons. For the board to be inside the tablet and not connected though, that's definitely odd!

That little green circuit board with the ANT written on it has no wires at all to it or from it, I have unscrewed it and it goes nowhere? i think the little grey wire you can see is just the solder joint? I think some dumb ass in the factory has forgotten to complete the curcuit

ok thats some sort of internal ant ...

as the plastic lugs are there for it to be held in place when closed up ...

its your choice on what to do .. but it if was me i would be getting some more Screened wire and soldering up new wires to the output ant board .. so u can use your external ant if u have one ?

carnt quite make out but does the gray wire have 2 wires solded on the board or just one ...

outer wire is a screening inner wire is the ant ..

if u do what i said above u need to copy the way its wired on the external board ..

Thanks Mark, so do you think that board with the grey wire and internal antenna is the gps output board? I do have an external antenna that came with the tablet it runs on 3/5volts so i need a feed for it aswell? I wondr why its not been connected? i bought it as advertised as gps enabled :thumbup1:

yep 2 wires soldered,

yes that is part of the GPS ... but for some reasone the ANT socket board hasnt been connected ?

have u just tryed the satnav in the house or have u been outsite with it ... ?

as when your in house all satnavs are rubish

and yes most external ant need power as there fitted to the window screen they act as a signel booster

you will need some Phono lead thats screened ( RCA Wire )

are you handy with soldering iron and volt meter ..

use your contenuity ( spelling ) option on meter or unless u can see on the ant board

what conection is the screening side and Ant side and wire it in the same as on the main gps board
