I have some real issues sleeping, sometimes I go two or three days without even a nap and other times I manage to get off about 6 then get up for work at about 8am.

Sometimes I jolt a lot, cant breath etc etc.. Anyhows went to see my GP today and he has reffered me to a sleep clinic. Thinks I might suffer with Imsomnia (no shit lol) but also might have sleep Apnia.

Has anyone been into Hospital for one of these studies? also did you manage to get to sleep when you were there?

I suffer from sleep apnea as did my dad mate, i found sleeping on my side seemed to improve it.

Weight loss is an option as it worked for my dad and cleared the apnea (not that i'm insinuating you're fat as i've never seen you buddy lol)

Dad went in over night on a couple of occasions and slept through the night, they come in and wake you up on a couple of occasions then talk you through it in the morning.

Very interesting stuff!

Cool Im a bit over weight but not massivly, I work out every day and have lost a stone and a half recently but could do with loosing some more.

Just worried about not sleeping when I am there!!

Well that's what they should be able to tell you why you can't buddy, they monitor your brain waves.

Do you drink anything with sugar/caffeine in it?

I'm allergic to caffeine so badly if i have a cup of coffee/tea after lunchtime i can't sleep that night and if i have one it has to be in the morning and just the one.

Overweightwise its the flabbyness of your throat that matters, with my dad weight loss helped but it's not always that.

To support that i've never snored in my entire life until i gained 2 stone and now i really snore on my back

Cool cant wait I cant go in being a vampire and a zombie, these extra 6-7 hours a night can be useful to do stuff but quite often it is lonely and boring.

I went to a sleep clinic about 6 years ago as I wasnt sleeping well and my wife said I stopped breathing. I arrived around 9 in the evening and was put in a room on my own. A nurse then strapped some wires to my chest, a heart monitor to my finger and a mask over my mouth and nose to monitor my breathing. Then I was left alone to go to sleep. Didnt have any problem going to sleep there, it was a quiet room.

Was woken up next morning around 7 and told to make an appointment for a couple of weeks for results. In my case I had sleep apnea, for every hour of sleep I stopped breathing 72 times! So basically I stopped breathing, gasped for breath, stopped breathing... Never got to REM sleep, which is why I felt so bad.

Sleep apnea does affect 'larger' people, but in my case I was told that even if I had the body of an olympic athlete it wouldn't help. I now sleep with a CPAP machine pumping air down my nose, forcing my windpipe to stay open - it has helped me a lot, although I still have problems every now and then, especially when I get a cold!
