Having recently been made redundant, my plans for nice new tyres for Z have had to be shelved. Instead I went back to my usual supplier of part worns (I recently visited him to put a tyre on my my Honda Civic for it's MOT). While I was there I just asked if he had any 235/40/18's.

He did!!! Two Michelin Pilot Sport 3's £35 quid each fitted, balanced and he gave me an adapter for my problematic recessed valves FOC.

He also had a 265/35/18 Pirelli P Zero with 5mm which he let me have for £30!!!!! Result!!

When I got home I googled both types of tyres and it turns out they are both really highly rated in lots of test for summer driving - perfect!!

Not only that, he is buying more tyres on Friday and will be looking out for another P Zero for me which he will charge me £30 for!!!

Not sure what the retail is on these tyres but I think it's safe to say they are pretty cheap? I was going to spend £270 on two Uniroyals for the rear!

Worst case scenario I will be at JAE 3 great tyres and a space saver LOL!!

Anyone else on part-worns??

Not on part worns, but if you get stuck, i know a decent company in northampton that does part worns for really cheap, can get it on your car so your not on a space saver for JAE.

I've never had a problem with part worns andy, and thats pretty much all I've ever boughht as I'm a tight bastid. lol :)

Cheers Mate!!!

I don't think he will beat the prices I have been offered though!

Now you have just turned this into a wanted add!! LOL!!

I prefer the word frugal!!!

Here is the weird thing - the tyre guy showed me a brand new one next to this one and the difference in thread was so small!! Still cant believe I got a 265 for £30!! BTW the date stamp on the tyres is 2010!!

Cheers Mate!!!

feck sake lol

i got a 255/40/17 goodyear eagle F1 with 6mm tread on it from him for £22 fitted valve and balanced, are you sure that wouldn't beat your guy?

Result! What a bargain: even David Dickinson couldn't have done better! Do they regularly stock part worns as I'm after a pair of 225/45/17s if you think they have any?

I'll ask him when he calls me on Friday for you.

Thanks very much! I've failed to meet my Target of getting the zed on the road next week- don't want to rush it. I'm about all day tomorrow if your working on the zed and want a hand.

Ok mate, I'm in London most of the day but should be back around 5.30 if you are free? I've finished with your socket now BTW!

Yeah I actually had another socket kicking about so I've managed to tAke them apart. Turns out they are 3 piece split rims. I seem to have worn out my polishing mop on just one wheel - any idea how long mops usually last?

Also, any chance I can purChase a wheel stud off you?

I seem to remember a really bizarre conversation the last time this topic was raised. Can't seem to find the thread though!!

Yes mate that's fine. Bring one of your stripped wheels over too.

Not bad but I think 18's go for more.

I'll see what he comes up with on Friday.

In my experience it seems the other way round sometimes! Wider 17s are more costly than the same width 18s. Not sure if 17s are perhaps old hat now and everyone wants 18s? :)

Yeah I guess it could be the rarity factor? I'm finding more 19's available than 18's at the moment!
