That link was ace though, especially the guy who rescued the unicorn from the elves - FPMSL..

OK, who else has got a story of bravery ready for ridiculing?

as much as i love CSI, im not basing my argument on that.

Yeah sorry, you've missed what I was trying to get across mate, I wasn't suggesting that you got all your info from CSI I was just using that as an example of how fictional TV will have you believe in many cases that ballistics is black and white when it clearly isn't.

I highlighted your quote so that I had something to make reference to when I was replying so that I wouldn't head off on a tangent (probably failed miserably there then eh)

I was trying to put across the different characteristics of both high velocity and low velocity ammunition, I know the guy wasn't suggesting that he was shot with a NATO round (in actual fact we now know that he wasn't shot at all....the strange fish that he clearly is!!!) but again, it was more to emphasise the point of how unpredictable a projectile can be once it's penetrated the body.

Exactly the same principle with 'stickets' when sniping (ie. a small amount of folliage, even light grasses, if encountered by the round just after it's left the barrel can have a dramatic effect on the point of impact at longer ranges.

Same principle with a subsonic round penetrating the body, after penetration and before its dumped its energy it may take a deflection, off a rib for example, changing its path slightly, which ultimately may result in it missing all vital organs.

There have been incidents where a low velocity round (9 mil in this instance)where it penetrated the individuals lower right abdomen, bypassed all vital organs and continued on to exit through the lower lumber regions without causing any significant damage, though shock and blood loss are still obviously serious enough in their own right to cause fatality even if vital organs haven't been damaged.

and that's where this idiots tall story really fell on its arse in my oppinion.

Unless the victim was off his face on crack I very much doubt that they would be inclined to just shrug it off......possibly watched too much Rambo part 3 me thinks!

as much as i love CSI, im not basing my argument on that.

Are you sure you wernt sat there with a pair of shades in your hand ready to pull off a classic Horatio comment !!!!! cue music .......... 'we dont get fooled again !! ' :cool3:
