I'm just sat here surfing t'interweb trying to find (to no avail) a wiring diagram for my Toyota Granvia (everything on the van is in Japanese) and in the background I've got 'A Car is Reborn' on TV.

Mark (the host) is rebuilding an E type Jag, which after taking the shell back to bare metal, showed a lot of pretty bad repair work that had been carried out over the years.

Well he's just taken it to a classic car body repair specialist who's used a process called 'Lead Loading' to repair parts of the damaged shell.

Very expensive and time consuming, but by the looks of the end result it's well worth the effort.

It just got me thinking about how car enthusiasts generally opt for the cheaper body filler repair, which has become the norm as opposed to the older and more traditional methods of lead loading and panel beating.

Obviously there's a huge difference in the value between a zed and an E type, let alone its final post restoration value and obviously there's a difference in modern metals used in car construction these days

anyway, back to searching for wiring diagrams......

Hi Buddy,

Forget body filler for most rust repairs, total waste of time, stick with lead loading anytime, my trade for many years was as a sprayer and worked in many top class bodyshops with all old school tradesmen, Have a word with BOLDY on here, he is a top class Panel beater

You can pick up the equipment fairly cheap from Frost... time consuming yes, but not really expensive. I've seen the results on an old Mini shell - looks like new!

i have done quite a bit while helping out on restoring my dads car, which coincidently is an etype, its hard to get right and if you are not careful you will leave acid behind which can cause problems.

there is nothing wrong with modern fillers and they are a lot lighter and easyer to use. i will however be doing a bit of lead loading on the zed
