Customer support emergency - how far do you go?

Knotty problem on an install for one of my dealers' customers. It's for a temporary install at an event which is only on for a few days. The diagnosis of the issue should have been simple but wasn't. My support boys didn't spot it, neither did the dealer.

To solve this, I need to get up at 5am and drive for a couple of hours to the south coast to get people out of a hole of their own making which should, if the checklist had been followed, have been fixed yesterday. Because it's a dealer sale, we're making peanuts and it's not our responsibility. The normal fix is to send out a new unit which would get there after the event and the daler doesn't want to come and get it.

Should I do this? BTW, the customer needing support is at Goodwood Festival of Speed....

Best get an early night then :D

think of word of mouth, if your prepared to put your self out, thats the sort of thing people remember when someone wants the same services you offer, but it also works both ways, if you dont, it could seriously go against you. so id say, get an early night lol

You want to work for Sky mate. I had to sort a customer out today on my day off as he will only trust me working in his house. Never seam to have a day to myself its always a phone call or poping round to a customers house to sort things out.

If I had to go to goodwood I would be there in a flash.

OK, you're right gents, I'm going. Might have been a bit different if it was Penrith in Winter. Oh no, hang on, I did that as well :D Cheshire in the rain. Inverness when the bloody train broke down. Pembroke County Show got so wet, the sheep drowned. And even that beat the hell out of Staples Corner.

As for Sky, I know what you mean. Used to be much more involved when you only had 5 channels in analogue. Bloody hard work then and the same today.
