see, were going onto supercars here and going off the topic of japan being the best

Ha ha - yes we have gone off topic a bit - but the point which most of us do agree on is that either Japan or Germany produce the world's best cars.

We may not agree the order in which they do; but it is certain from our comments that we (nearly) all agree on the top 2.......

.......and I will most certainly stick to Japanese or German cars. Until I win the lottery and don't have to ever think about maintenance costs again.....:innocent:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Come on guys, Japanese or German my arse. The Italians build the best cars in the world. It's about passion not reliability FFS!

I feel it should be a combination of all things - with how they drive being the most important - and as stylish and exciting to look at that many Italian cars can be - the majority are known to drive like utter pigs - on top of feeling cheap and falling apart.

for me jap cars are world beaters in every aspect, always have been

Totally agree, said that earlier in the thread.

im sure there are people on here who own 300zx's that are that reliable all they have had to do is get them serviced when they needed it.

Not wishing to tempt fate, but in 2 years of ownership, my Z has been absolutely faultless. In fact, it's even more reliable than my wife's Micra, and there isn't much in life that's more reliable than a Micra.

I put fuel in and get it serviced...that's all.

it all depends on your definition of:

Which Nation builds the "best" cars?

is "best"

1 - most beautiful

2 - most reliable

3 - most powerful

4 - most sold

5 - last the longest

6 - How good it is to drive

the statement is a bit to open for me to answer unless i specify what I think best means... :)

and so in that you will have even less people agreeing...

could do a Poll and rate each country for those type of traits..

come on guys how can you lot not like british cars???? maybe not the best now but we have made some awsome cars. E type jag, pretty much all aston martins, jag xj220, lotus, tvr, austin healy, mclaren, bently, rolls royce and of coarse dont forget the only one still going the good old robin

The question is if you won the lottery whats the first car you would go and buy? mine would be an aston martin followed by an e type not a nice reliable hatchback!

LOL! theres a very good reason why there are no more British car manufacturers! They were pretty cack!! They have a good following which is why some of them are sought after but I dont think they could be classed as the best! Mechanically they were pretty rubbish, most leak oil like the engine is a sieve! Not really good to drive either but do have some heritige I suppose!

As for what makes a Supercar you are all forgetting one important thing - Brand! Peoples perception of what makes a product one thing or another is how the company portray their brand image - which is why IMO no jap car would ever be a true "supercar" - its why when the press first wrote about them they were classed as "jap supercars"!!

In the same way that when we think of the luxury car market no one really thinks of some fully specced Peugot that may actually be more "luxurious" than a base Mercedes or BMW!!
