Hi guys, took the car for a drive tonight and coming round the last corner to drive up my road and suddenly the power steering just became none existent.

Pulled up on the drive and fluid was dripping all over the drive, looked down the road and sure enough there's a trail of fluid leading from where it went all the way to the car.

As it was going dark I havnt had chance to to investigate other than a quick look with a torch around the power steering pump, and its covered in fluid.

There was no whining or noise from the pump before this happened but I think there might have been a small leak coming from somewhere.

I suppose this isn't an easy question to answer only from the information I've given so far but is this Likely to be a shot pump or just a burst pipe?

Also if it is the pump is it a easy DIY job?

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers

Si

is it me or are there a lot a problems occurring with the power steering system atm?

easy enough to remove the pump Si if thats the problem.

Power steering on the Z isn't bad to deal with at all, unlike my MkIII Supra which had some weird ass problem with the power steering, it just died completely below 2K revs. I changed the pump, the rack, the hoses, frickin everything, but it was never right again.

Not sure if it's the pump or the high pressure hose yet,(or somethin else)gonna have to have a look either tonight or tomorrow.

Is it just a case of removing the turbo hoses to get to the pump, or does more stuff need to come off? Such as the radiator and/or the water pipes.

Also if it's the high pressure hose any ideas where I can get one from?

rad out

drivers side top boost hose off (if req)

then you can have a good look around but if you have to remove the pump

slacken adjuster remove aux drive belt for the pump

remove half a dozen bolts think there 12mm and 14mm then remove rez pipe and two hi pressure lines cant remember the size of the banjo bolts of hand.

If it,s the high pressure hose , i had one made up but using the original ends at PIRTEK they have branches all over , even mobile vans/workshop to do work on site , cost me £45 .HTH

Not for mine bud , took it in midday saturday and picked it up on the monday , they didn,t have the correct fitting for the opposite end to the pump so they actually used the end few inches of the original pipe and joined it to a new length of hose and then re-used the metal pipe that connects it to the pump , it,s been on a few years now with no probs :thumbup:

Don't want to hijack the thread but does anybody know what psi the high pressure links run at?

Is there any how to's on replaceing either the high pressure hoses or PAS pump on the net? had a look on here and on google but I can't seem to find any

Finally found time to investigate and it defo seems to be the pump not the hoses that's gone, it seems to be leaking from the shaft which also seems to have come put of the pump slightly and is bent to one side.

Anyone know of any how to's on replacing the pump?
