vodkashots Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 well in that case then, it could be worth it. basically its when the console over heats, have a look online for the the YLOD fix, and dont pay for basic information on how to fix it. you will also need a anti tamper torx screw driver, (torx with the hole in the middle) to open it up, or you could just send it to me and ill fix it for you. but be warned, not all are fixable. leo-r32gts Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I fixed mine (for 60 quid) and 2 months later the same thing happened! Got it fixed again, copied my data and part exchanged it with Game for a slim line. I wouldn't bother mate, not even for 30 quid.. Quote
Kinugawa turbo Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 My original Mk1 60GB (320GB) is still chuffing along! But I am always wary of the yellow light. Is it more common in later models? Or can it crop up on all vareints of the ps3? Quote

Don't have the console on 24/7, make sure there is plenty of ventilation around the unit, keep it away from sources of heat. Or do what my mate did, strip the shell and take a drill to it, doesnt make it look pretty with loads of holes all over the case, but sure does a better job of keeping it cool than what Sony made. I knew about the overheating issues, I used to run a usb fan on mine but i just wondered if some variants were more suseptable than others! The MK1 had the emotion chip for back catologue compatibility, 2 more usb slots and the sd card slots awell. So my thinking was do these over heat more than say the mk 2 40gb version. Quote
vodkashots Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I knew about the overheating issues, I used to run a usb fan on mine but i just wondered if some variants were more susceptible than others! The MK1 had the emotion chip for back catologue compatibility, 2 more usb slots and the sd card slots awell. So my thinking was do these over heat more than say the mk 2 40gb version. the majority of them are the mk1's but then they have been around longer than the mk2, but it seems that both models are susceptible to the YLOD and even the RLOD which is the same issue just different location on the main board. I think the only reason the Mk1 looks more effected is like i said, its been around a lot longer. Quote
