I cancelled mine last year, got sick of paying £48 a month for the same ole same ole and when you work out the monthly sky bill and TV license i cant justify paying nearly £700 a year to watch Tele lol.

I dont miss it one bit, just watch the freeview channels, although it does annoy me why on sky you dont get Dave or Quest etc, that you get for free on freeview box.

That seems like a similar deal that I got when I originally signed up but the monthly payment is always different! Sky TV should be Sly TV...... I wont be renewing when my contract ends.....Freeview will be fine and plenty of 'free' stuff on the interweb :)

A word of warning:

I signed up to sky in feb, took a month to get the phone and broadband installed in the end, what a waste of time.

My monthly bill was for £58 a month for line rental, up to 8 meg broadband and sky dish/plus box and hd channels.

A week after the install the 6meg we were getting dropped to 0.07meg every night from 5pm - 11.45pm then back up to 6 meg. Totally useless, enquired about it, they said leave it and it should come back. Out of the 8 weeks we've been with them we've had possible 2 weeks where it's useable then the rest of the time having to use 2g mobile signal.

Phoned them up on Friday to see what's going on and they said it's a BT exchange they rent, can't do anything about it and i'm in a 12 month contract so can't leave them.

Looked it up and yes indeed it is a bt box with talk talk in there too.

Said to the guy i'm not paying for unusable broadband, i want to speak to customer services, he said there's no point, i insisted i wanted to speak to them, he said there'd be a 10 minute wait, i waited 2 minutes and got through to a really nice chap called Mark.

He said no problem if i wanted to leave and said a mac code would be posted out to me to use with another broadband company and there would be no charge for leaving my contract early.

Rang up talk talk who estimated 17.5 meg from their exchange, they'd deal with sky moving over the phone and broadband and we'd be installed by the 30th of May!

Currently pay sky £11 line rental and £17 for broadband and talk talk are doing both for £19 a month.

My advice, get the tv with sky but don't bother with the phone or broadband because if like me you're on a bt exchange they really can't give a toss

Add that to the list of 1) there's a cheque in the post, 2) of course I'll respect you in the morning and 3) I promise I won't xxxxxxxxxxx (deleted on taste grounds :D )

Sky bought Easynet who were one of the first and best LLU companies - which basically means they put their equipment into BT exchanges. TalkTalk might be LLU in the same exchange or they may not, I don't know. BUT if you are getting a horrible service from an ADSL enabled exchange (whether from BT or an LLU provider) the odds are that that is caused by the phone line from the exchange to you and moving providers will make damn all difference.

The bods in the call centre use various databases to "estimate" / "guess" / "lie" about your expected speeds and not one of them know for sure until you've signed up and they can test the line in real world. Most of these databases (including the SamKnows one) are based on info provided by BT Openworld and we know for certain that this is not accurate. According to this database, ALL my customers have access to ADSL and we know that's just not true - otherwise they wouldn't be my customers.

Anyway, I hope the change of provider does solve your issue but, broadly speaking, if Sky can't provide you with a good service, odds are the problem lies between you and the exchange.

Sky internet is installed by openreach not talk talk. We have to get the date from them and is out of skys hands. Sky is on openreach's back all the time to get faster intalls.

Also this thread was to help people out if they wanted sky and not to diss them. If you want to rant over Sky please start up a new thread..

was not knocking you Gio
oops sorry, fair enough. Point being, really, Sky usually do know what they're doing with broadband and many times changing provider does NOT fix the line problem.

yes you are right Gio everyone apart from virgin uses the same BT lines for there internet.

I will say one thing Sky spend a lot of money sort out there internet getting it faster. Could be 30mb soon
