jap.slapper Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Could anybody explain in simple terms the pro's and con's of switching to Q45 throttle chambers/bodies from Z32 TT type I've been offered 2 x Q45's at a decent price but am curious to see what the benefit would be. Aren't the Q45 slightly bigger (supposedly 90mm'ish?) and are they a direct one for one replacement? cheers Quote
Kaza Steve Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 unless you do the supporting mods its a waste of time and effort ...you need to hone the plenum to the same size and if your not running bigger tubs or intercooler and injectors i dont see the benefit mate Quote
Smithy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Q45 Mafs are an upgrade for our cars if yer running 500bhp+ as they are 10mm bigger. Q45 throttle bodies at 90mm ish wouldn't even bolt on to the plenum, ours are around 54mm internal and the plenum has around 65mm of metal surface, so theres problem no.1. Everything else has to line up, linkages and the like and even if fitted, again for those running higher bhp and quite a bit to see any benefit. Apart from Z1 throttle bodies, i've only ever heard of the stanza that fit, even then they require much work to fit and around 10mm bigger than ours. Smithy Quote
jaffa Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 yup, the MAF's can be an upgrade, but will requeire a remap, you also have the more proven method of switching to dual intake to get the same benefit. Q45 Throttle bodies are way to big as Smithy says, only useful if you plan on creating a new plenum with 1 TB, in which case a Q45 one will be ideal :) Still a waste of time/money though! Quote
Gonzo12c Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) i take it you do mean thottle bodies and not MAFs? I looked at these but the whole mounting would be different to the standard throttle bodies hence i dont see it as a viable option as the plenum would have to be modified extremely. If after bigger throttle bodies then the Z1 ones should suffice On the MAF side i was going to run with 2 of theses and still have one for sale. I wasnt going to need a Maf sensor either using AEM ecu and was going to get custom silicone couplers made to fit as i have a doolz kit that will be used. My plan now is probablky to use the doolz kit and dummy mafs with 350z/G35 induction kits have a look at CZP and see what they do Edited May 18, 2011 by Gonzo12c Quote

Dave Rowe (see this months Total Nissan mag) would appear to be the man for the job and have been playing about with different locations for the oil cooler and have settled on building it into the front bumper, forward of the fmic Here's the engine spec list as it stands Engine specification: 3.0 ltr V6, 24 valve, variable valve timing, twin turbo. -Re-bored block with 20 thou' oversized JE-Arias forged pistons -Carrillo Super A-beam forged con rods -Twin Garrett T3 GT675-RS Roller bearing turbos -Dual HKS intakes -Twin ARC bov's *from BNR34 GTR, now being mounted on custom intake hard pipes* -Accusump (3 qrt) -ARC oil cooler off BNR34 GTR -GREX sandwich plate -ARC relocation plate off BNR34 GTR -Braided oil lines -Greddy oil catch tank -Greddy 3 row fmic -Greddy large racing radiator off track G50 -Greddy silicone couplers -Flexihose radiator pipework -ARP Cylinder head and main stud bolt kit -New valves re-seated with new hydraulic lifters -complete lower engine balance (crank, flywheel, pulleys with rods, pistons) -Full Nissan engine gasket set -New EFI wiring loom *Dave Rowe* -New oil and water pump -Nismo thermostat -Cometic steel head gasket -Power Enterprises kevlar timing belt with Nissan V belts -Nissan series 2 Power transistor unit -Z1 Motorsport 3rd stage clutch and lightened and balanced flywheel -Set of 4 Unorthodox Racing lightened and balanced pulleys *the 2 that were diffy (cheers Ztech....not!) are now on order* -Samco hose kit with plenum water bypass -Fuelab prodigy fuel pump *on order from titan* -Fuelab high flow fuel filter -Braided fuel hoses -ATL fuel cell -ATL 1.5ltr swirl pot -Turbosmart FRP-800 -ATL safety valve -Labree 5 bolt aluminium divorced down pipes & custom side exit front pipes -JECS 1000cc injectors now on order to replace current Nismo 740cc injectors with lower plenum -300 degree fuel rail now on order to replace current 1995 fuel rail and connectors -AEM EMS (v1) -Twin AEM wide band UEGO/LAMBDA sensors -AEM 5 bar map sensor -AEM water meth injection kit (1 gallon tank) -AEM 8 channel ignition module -Greddy Profec spec s boost controller -Greddy turbo timer Loads more but will get a new build thread going, now that its back on track (no pun intended) New colour for the zed has been chosen. Not to everyones taste, its a tad....shall we say...loud New Enkei's (9J & 10J) going for refurb (white centres) The 9J's will be kept for spares and the 10J's are going on the front. New rear fenders are planned, so just bought these SSR's, which are very similar to the Enkei's, from Dino (Japan Dyno) 11.5's should fill the new rear arches out nicely...(again refurbed chrome with white anodised centres) As some scumbag has just robbed my previous set of Sparco's I've just bought a nice Sparco kevlar with OMP rails Edited May 18, 2011 by jap.slapper Quote
jap.slapper Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Stripped I stripped the door skins, but still too heavy and a tad too much flex so its gonna' be either Escort Racing FRP doors (which are for SWB so would need a bit of work) or Final Konnexion FRP doors (which don't have a B pillar so both SWB & LWB) Quote
Rich666 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Looking good... I'd take out the pictures with your address on though!! Rich Quote

I know an ex member and friend off here that got severely done over by them and i wouldnt dream of putting my zed in there suggest you find somewhere else to map it. Quote
jaffa Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 AEM can control boost, you'll need to buy a suitable solonoid for it to drive. As for mapping, loads of AEM mappers around. I can recommend Ryan from 2bartuning Quote
Smithy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Man very jealous of those turbo's, when i had previously thought of going even bigger those were the puppies i wanted dohh Do you know what flow rate your new fuel pump is mate or are you running it in conjunction with the existing? Whilst i know an old member from here gott ripped off big time at Thor, it was a massive project that was expected to take considerable time and money along with custom manufacturing by them, am not saying that to lessen in anyway what happend to him, it is however miles different to what they do every day and to many many cars, mapping. You arrive, wait around if need be and drive out, ( assuming base map is done) I personally however favour Richard at Rising sun performance one of not many who traveled to the US when AEM became popular to see how it's done, again he also seems to know his stuff. Gonzo, with a MAP sensor on your AEM, why you bothering with any MAF's at all? Smithy Quote
Gonzo12c Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Gonzo, with a MAP sensor on your AEM, why you bothering with any MAF's at all? Smithy The MAFs would of not been fuctional just dummy mafs simply to use as an adapter onto larger filters however after speaking to CZP there is better ways around it. Quote
Smithy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I knew they were dummy's mate, more the reason for asking. With sooo many filters using funnels simply use a small silicone joiner from filter funnel to your pipework or if you really want for some reason a vehicle specific filter, ebay has shed loads of adapater plates, or least it used in my day when we were making them lol smithy Quote

jap.slapper Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Do you know what flow rate your new fuel pump is mate or are you running it in conjunction with the existing? After much discussion with a number of guys I opted for this setup (which is very similar to the Group N rally car that the fuel cell came from. 2 x Facett Red Tops as lifter pumps, feeding an ATL 1.5ltr swirl pot.Titan Motorsports have recommended that I use a Fuelab Prodigy Fuel Pump rated at 140GPH/1300HP and a Fuelab 818 filter with a 75 micron stainless steel element, this filter I have been informed will support 200 gallons/Hr, so well capable for my needs The Facet pumps are spec'd (per pump) as follows: Part No: RTW506 Spec: 'Competition' Pump: (480532E) Voltage: 12v Earth: Neg Pressure: 6.0 - 8.0 Flow rate (US Gallon/Hr): 40 Dry prime: Height in mtrs: 0.6 Thread size NPTF: 1/4 Operating temp: -60C +43C Power range (BHP): 200+ This is the colour that I've setled on.... it's a flat matt lumi yellow, that will contrast nicely with the bare carbon. Very distinctive, so ideal for advertising my new company name, logo and sponsors... Quote
Smithy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Ok fella, reason i asked was ours flows 255lph which is bloody powerful in flow terms and is often used as upgrade by others. I know kirbz was gonna run a 2nd one of these to the existing in order to support 100bhp, yikes! Good luck anyways mate, seems an awesome spec smithy Quote
Daffy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Looking forward to the new thread jap.slapper. Wondered what had happened with the build. Going to be awesome :cool2: Quote
jap.slapper Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Yeah, kinda' lost heart there for a bit with this build mate, and the zed has just sat on the back burner for what seemed like an age. I'll be honest, I almost canned it completely and considered just buying an R32 GTR that I spotted on Pistonheads which had already been built to a very high spec, but obviously I didn't do that in the end (and I've even re-subscribed!!) Circumstances have changed for the better in the last week or so and things are starting to look pretty good for the future now. You know what they say, when one door closes, another always opens....well it's sort of like that. I'm gonna hold off until there's really something to report on the build and will then kick off a new build thread Ref mapping the AEM, I've heard good things about Greg up at Pro-tuner, and to be fair it's a pretty decent setup that he's running up there, with a lot of the top teams in BDC/EDC getting there cars mapped by him. I dropped a friends PS13 up there a while back and he's done a blinding job on that, so I think I'll give him a go The future's bright, the futures.....well..... not orange, more lumi yellow! Quote
