big_jim Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Was out in my Bmw, driving down the road when somebody waiting in a side road edged forward. BANG! He pulled out! It all happened so fast, but i could see him pulling out, just thought he hadn't looked, and would stop when he saw me. Good job i sweared as he got the side of my car and rubbed all the way down. If i hadn't, he would probably have caught the front of me and loads more damage! Nobody was hurt, so im not bothered, a car can be replaced.. He admits fault and im getting a hire car tomorrow. They are taking my car next tuesday to inspect. I assume they'll write it off. Its a 1997 328i sport. Needs a door, rear quarter, a sill, trims etc.. My dad bumped his car last week. Still driveable, 2003 Merc E320 CDI. Got the call today to say £4000 of damage and they are writting it off.. Who's next?? Quote
Guest lee dent Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 my neighbour decided to reverse into my 4x4 this morning and reshape my door for me .hardly any damage to her car.cheesed me off a little to say the least..lee Quote
Yowser Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Damn. Glad your ok. From the damage you've described its very likely it will be an insurance write off. Cheaper and simpler just to pay out, than to pay for repairs and hire car costs. Quote
Gaz 300 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Its so easy done, car pulling out of side street not looking and bang this happened to my daughter a few weeks ago she has a hire car as they are fixing it and is not due back for another two weeks yet. Glad your ok Jim and you get sorted soon Quote
big_jim Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Cheers fellas. Im gettinh a hire car today, but they arn't picking my car up til tuesday to look at it. Thats a weeks hire before we start. Ive told them i took it to a bodyshop and said it was a write off. No wonder premiums are through the roof. Quote
Daffy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Oh man!! I thought you were going to say you had a massive Steak! You don't have much luck bud, glad nobody was hurt. Don't get me started on insurance premiums lol. Quote
big_jim Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Car is a write off. CAT C!! They offered me peanuts for it, but im getting it back for £50. I'll try to sell it as it is, or break it. Quote
TonyB Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Lucky they didn't refuse to pay out claiming the number plate layout is wrong ! (Just like mine) ! Quote
Bartflaster Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Don't accept their first offer, look around and send them ads of similar year/mileage/condition ones to ensure your not short changed, they will up it. Quote
big_jim Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 The plate came like that, hadn't changed it yet. Ive gor them up £250 from the first offer, not great tho but i now get the car back fir £100. Just picked it up. Doesn't feel right driving it.. Quote
