Hey Guys,

I was wondering what you guys think of the two models compared to 300's. Over performance, reliabilty and potential? Ofc also the rotary engines!

Cheers!

Not sure what you're getting at there..

But Leicester is the belly button of britain. Its in the middle and full of weird scum!

Can't wait for the day when I move back up t'north, where decent folk drive decent cars and BMW's are just something those posh southerner's drive!!

I was getting at the fact that on the couple of very unfortunate, unavoidable occasions that I've HAD to drive through Leicester over the years, I've been surrounded by ignorant, road law ignoring f-tards, mostly driving BMWs and VWs :D

RX7 - Decent alternative to the 300zx TT. An enthusiasts car. Smaller and lighter, but thirstier, plasticky and plagued with reliablity/maintenance issues.

Rx8 - Quirky Rep Mobile. Fairly decent handling and quality, but not particulaly quick. Also suffers with reliablity/maintenance issues.

If its a Modern rwd sports car your after, and your considering the RX8, then I would be looking at the 350z or Honda S2000 instead. Providing you dont need rear seats.

If you do need rear seats then my money would go Bmw. 330i/530i for decent performane without the big costs or if you want economy 330d/530d....or for the big thrills - E46 M3/E39 M5 if your looking to spend that much. Depends if you buy into "its cool to hate bmw's" philosophy or not though.

Ive always liked the shape of the RX7 regardless of the poor maint records which alot is down to user error is you read the RX7 forums but it is all about what you need it for. Ive never been a fan of BMWs i dont think there is anything exclusive about them which when after a sports car that is what i would go for. I quite like driving around and not seeing another car like mine on the road it definately draws attention :)

What about a Mazda MPS 6? Awesome Q car. Very unknown car.

256bhp / 4 wheel drive, all the toys. Remap to just shy of 300bhp, 280 Ib/ft torque standard! And lets face it would even toast a Zed in bad weather.

About £6k will get you a high mileage example.

lol i think people fail to realise that you can pick BMW up for peanuts now a days. I even know people who are on jobseekers allowance who can afford to have a new BMW T_T

but BM's are still a big pile of poo, and if you've got it for peanuts, take out a loan come mot time.......

Nice suggestion, looked at these on the back of an old Top Gear episode and subsequntly reading reviews. Polar opposite to a Zed but relevant to the initial post. Why so much love/hate for BMW's on this forum???

One of these gave me a good run in my MR2 turbo a few years back. Very pants looking motor tho.

I don't have my own opinion on this - I just watch Top Gear then agree with what they think!

But I think Gonzo struck the nail on the head - BMWs used to be the preserve of well heeled types, that was until every chav and his staffy bought one. Now I just associate them with people who think a badge automatically elevates them into another bracket. I appreciate not all peopl buy BMW's for this reason and let's be in no doubt that the high-end models are genuinely good cars - but the entry to mid level BMW's just reek of burberry...

I think there are many alternatives that have better dynamics, but none of the pretense.

That's why I wouldn't have a Beemer (unless it wears an 'M' badge, a proper 'M' badge, that is)

my brother had one of these in black and what a nice car it was, exceptionally underatted and on 2 independent rolling road test without any mods ran 279-283 bhp, much more then the book power.!

fast handles likes it on rails.

electric everything

if you went to japfest last year it was my brother racing the 350z round the track!

Yeh, I'm tempted to get one TBH. A good practical everyday car with 80% of an EVOs dynamic.

Much more to it than its blandish looks suggest. Uprated everything!

having had an rx8 i can tell you now, it's awful. and regardless of what any magazines say, drive it fast and you will achieve (i'm not even kidding here) under 10mpg.take it easy and you may get between 10-20. they handle well, that's about it, mines was 54 plate, the clutch went after 2 months, they replaced it under warranty, got it back, STINKING of gearbox oil and maiking a noise, called up mazda to tell them the service manager said oh, it'll make that noise until it beds in, aye right, never heard of that before, 2 days later the entire gearbox packed in and the car was jammed in first gear, oh, and on top of the awful mpg, it's no quicker the a 2.0 FTO, i had one of these at the same time. my old s13 200sx was miiiiles quicker!! oil consumption is 1 litre at least every 1000 miles, interior is not bad, bit shodily built, the gearknow has a wee light on it, that came off in my hand the first day(obviously glued on for the sale), the bose stereo is actually awesome, the seats are amazing too!!
