Anyone on here have any experience of driving/owning one of these? I am having one of those mad moments when i'm tempted to just buy one. It has been and gone before but think I might bite the bullet this time. It would be a 1.9 i'd go for and in Miami blue if poss, but they are really rare. Only 300 made in that colour and 1.9.

What do you guys think? Madness??

No, not madness at all, a friend of mine still has one, his is a 1.6 GTi, he`s had a few problems with leaking water and the oil seals in the engine, but other than that its a cacker, when i was 18 we had a rich mate who always had new cars, at 18 his dad bought him a 1.9 GTI in black, i loved that car and was fast as feck, but got beaten by my mates Nissan Cherry turbo, god we had some fun in that car!!!

Seen a couple that are really tempting. Not Miami blue, but that's not the end of the world. What was that Heaven 17 song?

Mate, i love em, my best mate had one when i was a kid, he used to beat my mk2 gti 16v. i very nearly bought one as a daily drive about 3 or 4 months ago, but i just couldn't bring myself to get rid of the rocco.

Proper fun little go-kart mate.

That's the one :punk: You guys are doing a good job of talking me into this. One of my younger brothers needs to build some no claims on a car as he drives a van as a daily so could all work well. I'll buy it and he insures it.

ive had two, both red (orange as it had faded) 1.4xs and the 1.9gti, Also had a 309 GTi in black.

the one had all new bushes and shocks when i bought it, one of the best handling cars ive ever owned, the other was very wooly and worn but still good considering. They are very quick as they weigh much less than a ton, (800kg or so i think?) and the 1.9 punches a fair bit of power, Went through shafts, clutches and gearboxes, but i was 18/19 and a bit wild behind the wheel!

I actually swapped mine for my Z, It was a Genuine Dimma car 1.9gti and tbh it was quite fun but fraught with problems, it had gearbox & electrical issues, also, it had the massivley wide split rim wheels on it which for some reason let the car handle really poorly, it use to just let the back slide round...but like I say, good fun :-)

I had one 10 years ago, was the 1.9 and was like a little go-kart. obviously back then it was proper fast and well wicked innit, but I couldn't go back to something that small now.

Go for it they are great, they were my 1st tuning experience. I had a 1.4 Roland Garos, then a CTi, then 2 1.6 GTi's the a 309 SRi and then a Dimma 1.9Mi16 which I stuck a super charger on!!

White is the best colour for them. my mate has a 100% mint one which are really hard to find these days.

There are hundreds of them around here but there all rally cars

My mate has one still & it's Miami blue with a factory turbo technics conversion with boost button on dash!!! Awesome & another lad I know has a grey one with the 405 mi16 engine & a 6 speed box all done by ecosse we done 130mph 4 up on way to a LAX POWER show at the NEC & it stillnhad more to go! But I personally prefer the look of the 309 GTI

Hi there YTS Weasel, you mates car sounds like one i used to know,( one of the guys i was apprentice with owned excalty the same motor, i wonder if it is the same one ?? j xx PRE was the reg or something like that, there cannot be many around with blueprint balanced engines and full turbo technics conversions, and yes, very very fast, M3 BMW's no problem etc etc

I had a black 1.9 years ago, only other car I enjoyed apart from the Z

fantastic little bus ,,..but i still prefer the 1.6 GTI for balance and poise and driver entertainment .....seems more revy and instant that the 1.9 IMOH

soo cool, and lightness provides the good accel more than the power. The spring in the odometer is weak so clocking in easily spotted by loosely aligned numbers or perhaps the whole bar dropping alittle. If you go off-road (you know.. via a hedge and ditch type of off-road) you can expect a whole wheel to detact. Beyond that I loved it.

go-on my son.!!!

PS now got a 206 gti (also). Its not the same. alot faster in every respect but quite souless and bad peddle position.

iv had a few of them, the 1.9 is the one to have but if you got a few hundred quid more get a 10gti,. more fun than any 300zx. iv just sold my 106gti for one reason only, i cant help but drive it like a total ****, i dont feel that need in my 300,

i just sold a 106gti with a ported and polished head and a few other really nice bits on and it was the nicest colour gold. it was rapid, really really fun but this may just be as it reminds me of my younger days in the 205gti

so which would you rather drive around in, a 106 or a 300zx?

Go for it,avoid the 1.6gti ,the 1.9 are pretty quick, loadsa fun!Getting classic status now.

As if by magic, piston heads heros feature :)

I had a friend who had a 1.6gti, had alot of work done to it though and used it as a road rally car, he sold it to another friend of ours who had it 3 months and sold it on. It crops up from time to time and each time its the same story... "wish I'd never sold it!"
