Bugger - turned my PS3 on this afternoon (original 60Gig version) & got the yellow light flash, 3 beeps & light flashes red. Looking on the tinternet it seems I have the dreaded YLOD (!)

Seen a few guides on heating the board up to reflow the folder joints so with not a lot to lose I have it stripped down & have done the first stage of heating on the underside of the board :sweatdrop:

Waiting for it to cool down now to do the other side

Anyone else tried this?! Have read various reports from it not working at all, to fixing it completely or fixing it for a short period of time.

is it not possible to just look at the pcb and see where the solder joint is broken?

perhaps if I had a million times microscope! LOL! I think the problem is more dry joints rather than an obvious break.

Will post back how I get on LOL!

It can be done, but take note its a temporary fix. it WILL happen again, its due to the design, not enough air flow over the chips. The Xbox360 suffers the same problem with a 3 lights of death.

Ive fixed mine about 5 times now, currently its ylod and I cant be bothered. Lasts about a month after a fix.

Search on you tube shows you how to fix it.

Well done bud, I fixed mine and told GAME it had cod mw2 stuck in it. they said to send it back. I tried to break it again just by playing cod and it would'nt break (2 months worth) so I traded it in lol.

I only fixed it to get all my save game data off it

was thinking of trading it in just in case LOL! do they check if the warranty seal is intact?

Yeah i did mine a few times. Mine managed to last about 3 months. After the 3rd time i had enough so got all my data off it and gave it to my mate, hes had it for 7months now and still seem to be going strong. he bought one of those fans that goes on the front .

I would imagine so, but it's worth takin a chance you've nowt to lose.

My sticker was intact I used a hair dryer to make to flexible then peel it back to get at screw. It was a bitch to get back in though lol

I did one and it only last 2 weeks. I'd trade it into Game or somewhere before it becomes a brick and you can't get the game out! They will warranty it if sold on and they have more money than us!

phoned blockbuster & as long as it works they dont worry about the sticker!!

Just traded it in for £110! had a few old games as well & ended up with a new 160gig model for £100!!

On the downside my old 60gig model looked more of a premium product than the new version! thats progress for you LOL!! :tongue_smilie:
