Engine Removal

Hi all

got the tech doc on the above but just wanted to know:

can you leave the auto tranny in place when you remove the engine?

is it the same removal technic as a manual?

cheers

unfortunately nope.

Their's just not enough room.

Also to remove the top two bolts off the bellhousing, I had to slightly angle my engine on the crane to get enough clearance. A right PITA!

Not sure if the difference in dimensions between the Manual and Auto Boxes but on a Manual Car you can remove Engine + Tranny. But you will have to drop the crossmemmber and rack to do so - If you fancy doing that and think you have the Crane and the room to try and do it then Try - I would just remove it mate.

Ahhh gettin to the bellhousing bolts is a piece of piss once you make the correct concotion of UJoints and Exententions for your wrench.

If you have a lift you could try droppin the front axel then dropping the engine + Tranny togehter - that is 100% do able on a Auto car.

Have fun - It aint a nice job but not too tricky.

the engine will come up from the top though right? does the tranny come out with it on an angle?

i wanted to strip the engine down before i pull it out. i mean take thew heads etc off. is this possible? or does it have to be out?

cheers

Latz,

Yes the engine will come out from about with not worries.

You are best of waiting till the engine is out to remove the plenum and Cylinder heads IMO you can do it in the car but it is a much bigger PITA.

The big things ro make sure you have is a good crane with a decent level of horizontal boom controll- You also need a Dam long boom on it - I used a 1 ton Crane at full extension ( bare in mind the safe working load of the crane is reduced the longer you extend the boom) - I think i was pushing the safe limit but hey Saftey tollerances are your friend after all smile.gif I used a Draper Folding Crane (1 ton) for reference. A Load level will make life a lot easier too.

if you take the Tranny out with the Engine from above drop the crossmemmber and try to angle it up over it ( i.e Tilt the shit outa the engine) - It wont be easy as you wont really be able to see under the car to judge clearance - deffo a two man job if you have someone that can just operate the crane it makes life a shit load easier.

Hope that helps - If you have any questions feel free to shoot us a mail.

Latz,

It's probably easier to remove the tranny completely and then remove the engine out of the top.

Remove the engine with the plenum in place and strip it down once its out.

This will make life less hard....won't say easier because nothing on the Z is easy.

Steve

cheers for the help guys!

watch for more posts!!!!

Remove gearbox first, using about 3 feet of extension bars to get to top bellhousing bolts.

Then put a strap around inlet manifold & lift engine out. That is how mine came out (TT manual).

Then the hard work starts smile.gif smile.gif !!!
