Hi folks just got my missus a MR2 1993 rev 3 NA Auto and mot is up at the end of the month with a few faults on the pre test if anyone knows the cars would be a great help

Fail on following

parking brake efficiency below

front sidelight out

horn not working

rear tyre

exhaust emission fail

exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

Ok so not too bad all in but i could do with some help on the parking brake and exhaust faults.

The exhaust is aftermarket and sounds like its straight through could this be causing the failure?

Also where is the adjustment on the handbrake?

Cheers folks

Marty

Almost certainly failing on the exhaust gases cos of the lack of cats.

I had my skyline de-catted, but managed to find a dodgy garage who would take £20 quid ant turn a blind eye..

Bantambunny knows his stuff about MR2's and probably Janus too, quite popular with us certified Jap nutters.

cheers

ah so all you do is keep a stock exhaust in the garage and change it for mot time? It is a import as well i can list the figures if it helps

Well i was always told to test imports with the pre-cat emissions test so make sure they're doing the correct emissions test, tell them to ring VOSA thats what we had to do

Def find yourself a Jap friendly MOTer!!! You're a bit far away from us otherwise Lil Stevie's mate would be recommended!

ive got a friendly mot place round from me they did my zed when the old git at kwik fit just failed it on everything

Brakes are common im told.

Just need freeing off.

Mines had All new calipers in the past 12 months.

i take it the handbrake is as normal just on the rears then? i bought it round the corner from a ex zed owner and he knows a bit saying that there is levers that act on the pistons that can become seized or a bit slow. The handle does come up a long way anyway. Is there an adjustment by the handbrake handle?

As big jim says the rear brakes are common my wife mr2 roadster had new rear calipers on then a month later it failed the mot on them they needed tightened up and to do it the tension on the handbrake was loosened then the brakes were pumped hard 3 times and the tensioned on the two cables are tightened. By the way ITS FOR SALE.

I have a Rev 3 3S-GE in my Celica and it ALWAYS fails on emissions lol. It's pretty common with that engine it will be 1 of 2 things.

1 - De-catted like you said or fried Cats

2 - O2/Lambda Sensor

Most of the boys on the Celica forums just fire something called "Cataclean" through it and make sure you give it a good thrashing before the Emissions test.

Personally I found a friendly MOT centre ;)
