Help lumpy tickover

Hi All,

my zx is lumpy on tickover particularly when cold and it dissappears after half an hour of driving.Just recently fitted the resistor to fool the car into thinking it has the knock sensor fitted, don't know if this might have something to do with it.

Has anybody got any ideas.

Mark,

It's more than likely your engine temperature sensor....left hand plug on the coolant pipe.

Remove the connector plug and clean the contacts.

You can do an ecu diagnostic to check if your resistor is working on the knock sensor circuit.

What value resister did you use?

Hi Jeff,

thanks for your contribution, I have been informed and put in a Two Megaohm resistor unless the Pizza faced kid in Maplins gave me a wrongun, (unheard of I hear you say).Could I possibly ring you over another ZX problem if you don't mind.

Hi all,

respect to the pizza faced kid in Maplins it was actually a one megaohm I got and installed.Anybody got any further ideas?

I have the same problem at the moment. Goes up and down and some times seems to almost miss a beat.

I have just invested in some new plugs. The ones in are just starting to get a little old and when I cleaned them and checked the gap last week it seemed to clear the problem for a few days.

I shall tell you if it helps after I install them

Cheers mate,

I had new plugs fitted about 5k ago and maybe the gap needs adjusting. To tell you the truth I don't trust the kid in maplins anybody know where I can get a one Megaohm resistor from?

Thanks

Hey mark

should be able to tell what resistor you got via the resistor code. if you cant work it out tell me what it is and i'll tell you if it is or not.

hope this helps

it might not be relevent, but i had the same prob !and i changed my air filter set up cos my standard panel filters where blocked!

just a thought !

Hi All,

Thanks for everyones contributions I have a mate who has checked the resistor and he says it is actually a one megaohm. He says it is only 1% tolerance and he has given me a resistor with 5% tolerance, yet to see if it works. Will try changing air filter been 5k since last done so maybe?

I am in Putney Vijay what about yourself?

Cheers Mark H

Hello Mark,

I'm in NW London - Cricklewood. If you needed one, I'd get one off my mate who works in an electronic shop. Anyway glad to see you've sorted it.
