day out in oxford, pablito

So i decided to have a different day with family so we decided to go to oxford as we had never been there visiting, to start with amazing city , very nice views , friendly people although very busy and pubs were all full lol !

anyways i told pablito ( paul ) i was going there today so we'd meet up and have a chat . In all honesty i can say this guy is a top top bloke !! :D very friendly person and great for a laugh , really enjoyed this afternoon . hope to meet more people from the club who have a great friendly spirit like he has , all i can say is ... i cant wait for Jae + the booze mate !! haha:rockon:

like we mentioned today, its not only about the zx itself its about the club spirit !! :gunsmilie:

The pleasure was all mine, i got to meet Jo and his lovely family, and we had a few laughs over lunch. Unfortunately i was subjected to a Supra owner trying to tell me that his car was far superior than the 300zx.... Now i know the Supra is a great car, and stock for stock perhaps even better than the Zed, but i certainly wasn't going to tell him that!

Lovely genuine people and a great sounding car too boot, I can't wait to see it when it's finally how you guys want it.

I too am looking forward to all the upcoming events this summer where we can drink far too much, drool over beautiful cars and generally be merry.

Tyre size recommendations

Might be stating the obvious (to some) but something I didn't realise until I started trying to pick tyres for aftermarket wheels is that the profile figure - e.g. 40 - is 40% of the width.
So for a 255/40/17 tyre - diameter is 255mm, profile / side wall is 102mm (40% of 255), and radius is 17inches.
Learning this made it all make a lot more sense to me. I also have this graphic to refer to. Can't recall where I found it but it's now saved on my desktop!

I also wanted a chunky looking tyre with a solid side wall and after going 245(F) / 265 (R) , have since switched back to 235(F) / 255 (R) as I found the handling was noticeable more boggy and I use the car for fast road and track use. For ref, these tyres are on 18" BBS LMs.

Tyre size recommendations

245 on an 8J will look like a balloon on a 8j….. an 8J is only 204mm wide

The tyres you currently have a 2% smaller in diameter and circumference that the OEM wheel/tyre combo

Personally would be looking at a 225/45r17. Plenty of very nice tyre options and only 0.4% different diameter from OEM size

Suggestions for Potential Valved Exhaust

Personally I wouldn't bother mate!
Valved systems are fine where they are an OEM fit on new cars, but why waste cash trying to replicate that on an older car which sounds pretty decent from the box.
Go and speak to Infinity (the guys next to Jim) and get them to custom build a "normal" system for you. I did and I am very pleased with the result.
My old Mongoose was too intrusive at cruising speeds, so Infinity fabricated one with extra resonators at the front, which made cruising quieter from inside the car. They then used smaller silencers at the rear, so the best of the noise is out back. If I want to have a little fun and enjoy the rumble, I just open the windows.
No fancy switches to mess around with, it looks good, sounds good (without the added knob-headed attention seeking function) and only cost £600 all in.
