Right i have a decent spec laptop, its a dell studio 15 its got bluray, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd etc and i use it alot

Just before christmas i bought an ipad as i love my iphone and most people said it would make my laptop redundent but to be fair it hasnt!! its a great bit of kit but it just sits there in fact only my son uses it really lol

So been thinking of selling them both and upgrading my laptop??

So come on you IT geeks recommend a laptop for me

Also any idea what kind of price i'm looking at for my laptop?

Cheers

Mike

Mac all the way bud.... expensive but worth it in my opinion.

i do like the look of them but for what i use them for i need a pc, its pretty much surfing the net, download a few bits and bobs and some work mainly ms office stuff so i think a mac would be wasted on me?

i like the look of the dell xps laptops?

Dell Alienware 2nd'd.

Mac's are overpriced fasion accesories, although I am an iPhone owner and iPad fan. But as far as laptops go Alienware are great, does everything a Mac can do plus runs everything a Mac isn't compatible with.

I hear where your coming from with regards to overpriced etc, BUT - they are massivly powerful machines, you have absolutely no worries about downloads and virus' etc so no need to keep buying/upgrading norton or sophos, (i know that there also free ones out ther - but they're not as good.) It's superfast for web browsing, great for music and video editing, pretty instant with regards to booting up and shutting down. However i do take your point with regards to compatibility around microsoft products... but they are in direct competition, and you can obviously get all the office products to work on the mac, but you need additional software (again another cost - about £100 IIRC)

BUT as you say... a bit of a fashion accesory, but i challenge any of you to have a go on a new mac and then on any other brand of laptop, and i am sure you will agree that the most astectically pleasing to both the eye and on a tactile basis is most definately the mac.... they just feel lush.

On the other hand i broke the charger the other day and if i want an apple replacement it's about £60.... so while one is on order i grabbed a cheap 17" Medion laptop from Argos (about £350) - and i'm quietly impressed by how nice such a cheap entry level laptop feels. So i guess that whatever floats your boat is probebly the one you should go for.

I don't dislike Macbooks at all, I do like them alot. Nice and aestically pleasing like you say...but DAMN they are expensive for what they are.

The equivalent price for a windows laptop buys you a portable monster

alienware bro

yeah i have looked at them, just a bit pricey for me really i think? but might have another look, alot depends on how much i can get for my laptop and ipad? any ideas?

Mike

pc gaming is dead thats why i gave up building my monster pc's every 12 months so IMO an alienware is a waste of money if your not gaming and if you are there is only so much a laptop can do game wise compared to a desktop

Looks a good price for the spec and more than enough for me to do pretty much anything?
