Hi All,

I'm looking to have the lyrics stripped from a song to leave the backing track. I know there are some clever people on here and i was wondering if anyone has done it before or thinks they could do it.

Cheers

Peter

have you checked itunes? often have instrumental versions of songs further down on the list?

if someone has used the backing track on youtube you could convert that to an mp3... just a thought. you probably checked already tho lol

What is the track, some cdg kareoke machines can strip the vocals off. I can ask a friend for you

Depends, I would have to analyse it first, knowing what it is would help for a start.:pinch:

have you done mine?

some sound editing software can strip out certain frequencies, like those that contain human voice, but it will usually be at the sacrifice of some of the music as well

I've tried using the karaoke Machine but the strip on those doesn't really work well enough.

It's a song called "Somewhere In The Night" and was performed by Scott Bakula for the TV show Quantum Leap.

This is the song on You Tube that has been used on a Star Trek fan Video for some reason (Probably cos Scott Bakula was in Enterprise)

I've semi successfully done this in the past - I subtracted the left channel from the right, which removes the vocals as they are always equal between the channels, but leaves anything that is stronger on one channel than the other. Obviously any instrument that has also been placed in the centre of the 'soundstage' will be removed as well, so it's not that great, the most noticable being the bass, as that is nearly always equal to both channels. However, you can remedy that by low pass filtering the original so you could only hear the bass, and then adding it back in. I suspect that that is what the Karaoke machines are actually doing in reality. It's not great, and it only gives a mono output, but it's still very much recognisable as the original piece of music, without vocals.

ry gettin cuebase thats wot i used in collage u need to get the full version though

its a sampling remastering and recording studio on your comp

theres a few other programs

its been a few vacant years since i done my degree and softwears probably changed but heres a link to choose from

number 3(audasity) is really good if you lear how to use it

plus if you get cuebase then you can use the digital drum machine and play about with lyrics and layer it on top of a made up drum beat

anya never sounded so good

You got no chance of removing anything from a low quality mp3 such as this using the karaoke method if you do it will sound shit, your best bet is to source a midi file and go from there.

Never seen a midi file for this track. I have the original score on cd which has been ripped down to a wma file on my computer. I'm crap at using music editing software though. Tried it a while back and got nowhere. :(

Ideally I need to find someone that knows what they're doing.

Ive just looked at the normal places i get midis from, and i cant find it anywhere, sorry chap :(.

No prob. Didn't think it would be there.

To be honest, i'd be appreciative of any effort, crystal clear on not as long as the backing track was there.

You need someone with a Copy Cat Vocal eliminator !! I have one but it's hurried in the pile of boxes as we have recently moved !! They banned a year or so after they made them & it will remove the vocals from any track recorded in stereo!

I don't mind trying but I'll need the high quality stereo file, it would be best if you host it and I will download it from there.

Dunno how to host it. not that technical lol. I could e-mail it to you if that would work?

Should do, you can try sending to z32king at hotmail dot com

Got it mate.

Thanks for the effort mate, appreciate it. I'll have a crack at singing over the top of it when i next do a gig and see how noticable the original vocals are.

Failing that, my only other option may be to find someone who can replay the entire track on Piano. In the show, it was completely played on Piano only and the episode is actually called Piano man.
