you only need a subscription for speed cameras and (I think) the live traffic update. I have a One and am really happy with it. Can update it for free just by plugging it into your PC.

yes as said i think you just pay for the updates, my mate has never updated his seems a bit mad when your driving in a field due to a new road layout but apart from that lol!!

cool mate, which model is it?

i have the One IQ. i like the idea of the traffic version of this talking to other tom toms and letting yours know if theres a traffic jam, but I dont use it enough to warrant the subscription. in fact i use a sat nav once every 6 months or so!

the traffic version sounds good, she works as a teacher in surrey and is always travelling about

would there be a monthly sub for that one then?

No .... with 'Live Services' you can get a month or even a year free and then you pay about £40 per year Have a look at the TomTom website for deals or try handtec.co.uk for the best prices

Once bought you do not need to pay owt :thumbup1:

If you want extras then by all means pay but I wouldn't bother, I have had a tomtom for about 4 years and you can load it yourself with speed cameras, voices, etc, if not I will do it for you.

I just ignore traffic jam announcements and matrix motorway signs anyway as more often than not the trouble as long since cleared, better the devil you know than the road you dont!!!

If you are going to get stuck in traffic once in a while it is not the end of the world.

With tomtomhome installed for free on your pc, you just plug in the tomtom via usb every month or so and it will update for free any road changes or additions required

Furthermore, speed camera locations are available here

You do need to pay to get them and it as got a lot more expensive than when I last paid, you then get all the files to load into your satnav, these are yours to keep for ever with no more charges.

If you choose not to pay for the 2nd year then you will not get the latest released files but they do not noticeably change much anyway. My files must be at least 18 months old, I could update but I am more than happy :flowers:
