Hushhhhhhhh ing noise

I have a airy gassy sound when I drive. At first I thought it was my turbos becasue it gets louder as I accelerate.

However, it only does it in 4th gear. I have tried it in 1st, 2nd 3rd and 5th and all dont make a sound. Its just 4th gear?

I dont think its the turbos, cos I can accelerate and the sound gets louder, I then let off, let the turbo spool down, and if I accelerate hard again, the noise goes straight back to how it was, before the turbos have time to spool up.

The sound cold also be compaired to when you shake a light bulb and you get a gassy rattle. Its like that but quite loud.

Please any ideas?

Just am idea - check the plastic 'boot' that surrounds the gear knob (ooer) ir may have come away and ahen you shift it becomes more boticeable

I only happens briefly then goes away... not the'marbles dropped into an empty can' noise tho frown.gif

Apaaling spelling but i can see two keyboards:_

it could be the rubber around the gearbox and it also could be a brearing under the selector.

I have been meaning to do mine but havent had a chance.
