It's not impossible, just not financially viable. You may as well sell the NA and buy a turbo to start with. Then you can spend all the money you saved on tuning that.

what kind of money am i looking at? i'm really lookinat this as a progressive for fun project

You basically need the contents of the engine bay, plus ECU, wiring loom, the gearbox bellhousing is different..

If you can find a cheap rear end shunt TT then have fun.. if not.. be prepared to spend the value of a TT just to put it all together..

Have a look at http://ashleypowers.com/Na-TTConversion/natoturbo.htm for a starting point

It really really REALLY isnt worth it. You need a new engine etc....The TT's have HICAS as well ,the NA doesnt. Loads of stuff is stronger built for the TT so you need all that. Like the man said - buy a TT first, then have fun playing with that instead.

well the deal it that i love these cars... at the moment i would like to get a n/a and just do everything i can... cause i can't afford a turbo now. but then a few years down the road when i have some more money go out and turbo charge it. i'm thinkin i would like to do that cause i would much rather have all aftermarket turbos and plumbing etc. becuause stock stuff is just never as good..so if i'm gonna replace it might as well just do it from the start. the other thing is that i'll be starting with a n/a engine...which means it hasn't been getting pounded with 10- 14 psi for the last 6-10 years (which really shortens engine life. ) anyways.. if u can find me a turbo for the price of a na great(i wish) ....if not then i appraciate all the help u have given me, lol.

Did you look at that link?

If you want to convert the engine itself, then you're looking at a *full* strip and rebuild, and if I recall correctly, new turbo heads as well as cams, valves, the pistons are different, oil sprayers.. damn near the whole engine bar the block..

Why cant you afford a turbo one? Where are you. All UK Zs are turbos and the cost of a UK Z is that same as an import NA.

Insurance too. I Looked at insurance for a NA when I was researching the car because I thought the on a Turbo insurance wouldnt touch me.

But I was infact cheaper to get insurance for me on a UK turbo than a Jap NA. Jap imported cars are generally more expensive to insure.

As for everything else. It does the same milage, £1000 of mods will give you a lot more power than a £1000 on a NA.

Stuart

i'm in the usa

powerhungry m8 - whatever you do, dont ask this question on TTnet.. smile.gif they hate it..

anyway - it can be done, its a long job though, and not easy, nor really that cheap..

however if you want to do it for the fun & challenge rather than take the easy option, go for it.. why not! just make sure you know what you're getting yourself into smile.gif

and for stuarts benefit - TTs are still $2-5k more than NA's in the states I believe, and insurance is more too..

Yeah Aaron, I gathered that.

That is why I asked, it sounded like he wasnt from the UK, but I wasnt sure.

Your best bet is to buy a NA and then when you have the money, sell it and buy a Turbo. It will cost loads to make a NA to turbo, plus I reckon that your car will be off the road for a good 3 months when you change. Unless you do it yourself and stockpile do it in all one go.

yeah the reason i want to do this as cheaply as possible and progressively is because this will be a weekend car. i want to baby this car way more than i could as a daily driver.
