another creak/rattle

hi all,

ive been a zed owner now for about 4 months and a damn fine cars they are too... appart from the annoying creak which mine appears to have. it first appeared a few months ago but then disappeared after a while, but now it seems to be almost constant. its hard to describe but its a cross betwen a creak and a rattle and appears to be comming from the engine bay, directly infront, maybe slightly to the right of the driver, maybe near the front strut.

is there anything that has been known to work lose in these cars in that area, ive had a quick scan but cant see anything obvious, it could possible be the bonnet stay but the noise seems to be too near the driver for that, maybe a loose windcreen wiper mechanism, any ideas anyone? its gettin on my nerves.maybe it is just a creaky strut afterall..

Do you get it when you go over bumps or ripples in the road ? Mine used to make a kind of creak/clunk and I think it turned out to be the suspension top link which had excessive play and needed replacing.

its kind of wierd.. i can leave the house in the morning with no creak, but when i encounter a roundabout, or bumpy road it will start, last for a period of time, and then sometimes it will just disappear and i wont hear it for the rest of the journey no matter how hard a throw the thing about trying to get it to do it again. perhaps ill just have to wait till it falls off. even if its the wheel.

Hey,i have the same thing (almost) more so when it's damp,it sounds near to the drivers side door column just behind the steering wheel.Any ideas?

Thanks Ken

this is uncanny i have developed the same ting, i greased the bonnet latch and the bonnet catch and the uuhh hinges on the bonnet and it sort of went away but is is there verynow and then frown.gif

very very irretating

yep sounds like we do have the same probs, surely someone must have had it and fixed it.

Hiya Scoops,

I had a similar problem, sounds like something loose in the engine bay ahead of the driver. The problem was actually in the dashboard, above the instrument cluster. There are lots of connectors loose behind and ocassionally they rub against the metal bakplate of the instrument panel, especially on bumpy motorways.

Take the two screws out (philips head) in the roof of the instrument cluster and see if that finds the problem.

Good hunting.

Amer.

A creaky Zed is a healthy Zed - well it must be coz they all seem to creak, i could not find the source of my particular sqweek, until the missis was in the passenger seat and it drove her mad LOL smile.gif

It turned out to be the underneath part (technical huh?) of the glovebox.

There is some chassis parts that sqweek like buggery, now I just get her to rest her feet on the glovebox and the pressure of her smelly feet stop the sqweek smile.gif - not a fix I know but hey wink.gif
