Belt noise, advice needed please.

Hiya guys,

Just replaced my timing belt, water pump and did all the seals on my 1991 NA today; no problems and it is running beautifully. I have tensioned the external belts as accurately as I can, but I am still getting an intermittent sqeualing noise from them. I plan to check them out one at a time again tomorrow from under the car. I think they may stil be a bit loose. Do you get squeal from belts too tight or too loose ? And how long after breaking them in should you retension them ?

Thanks guys.

Amer.

First of all amerkarim big respect on tackling the belt service. The most likely belt to be slipping is the alternator belt when under extra electrical load after a start usually. it not to bad to retension form below and in all fairness it does have to be really tight as the alternator is a high output baby. After retightening it should not need doing again for at least 6k to 8k. Jeff TT

Thanks Jeff TT
