Beam me up scotty!

 

Ive got steam (water leak)venting from somewhere on the left hand side (standing in front of car) of engine. I am loosing coolant and just wondered if anyone has any ideas? The heads are fine it appears to be coming from quite low. Compression is A1 on all six.

That is more than likely the coolant overflow - you are having overheating problems yes?

 

Do a search it has been mentioned a lot but most common cause is the Radiator cap is fuct up.

It appears to come from the rear left of the block i.e near bulk head. Does the overflow go all the way back there?

Nah Roy - Nico is getting his knickers in a twist again..

 

There are a whole load of small coolant pipes under the inlet manifold - these can perish, there are also some down the back of the block at the back, but if it really is low down - it's quite possibly the same place mine was coming from - the drivers side turbo feed/outlet..

 

If you look down the side of the engine, just in front of the brake cylinder, you should be able to see them - two metal lines come snaking upwards off the turbo (with banjo joints onto the centre of the turbo), with rubber hoses attached to them - one hose turns rearward and attaches to another metal line (just under the EGR tube) and the other goes more forward and attaches to the underside if the inlet manifold..

 

Hard to see - I'll see if I can take a pic of mine if you like?

I think im going to replace everything!

 

Coolant leaks will be the death of me.
