Whining Noise

Hi Guys,

Has anybody had strange whining Noises from the rear of the car ?. I`ve got a intermittant whine from the drivers rear wheel area, its there most of the time , hot or cold. Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions of the cause ??

Sounds like a wheel bearing if it's just from one side. Is it worse when cornering one way ? If it's the RHS bearing, should be worse turning left. Also, if you jack the car up you might feel some movement in it, or hear it 'grinding' if you spin the wheel.

John,

Cheers for that , I`ll have a check as soon as I can.

I have a very similar problem with my Z. The whining is worst when the car is cold. and seems to occur at around 1500--2000 rpm.

Its definately from the diff or wheel/bearing(left side).

If you sort this problem please let me know!

Is it rev related?

Ie. get louder with the revs? DERR biggrin.gif

Cos I get a whining/almost whistling noise from the rear of the car from time to time. I think its my turbos. Cos I can be going 50 in 2nd and its very noticable, but I can be going 60 in 5th and not hear it.

Is that OK for you. biggrin.gif

Stu,

my car is a jap 2 seater NA Coupe , and as the speed increases the whining does, although its intermittent, its not a grinding noise but sounds like a `dry` sort of a whine.

I think the best thing i can do is take it to my brothers Garage and get the Wheel off and have a good look.

Many thanks

Could it be your brakes?

My pads need replacing and are starting to squeek.

I have a whine at anything over 30mph that does not seem to be load related but speed related.

It could be the diff but at the moment I think it's a drive shaft bearing which is not serviceable and so this requires a new drive shaft assembly.

I have no idea how to diagnose this for sure and it is begginning to annoy me greatly.

Sounds like a noise I had. I was told it means the rear brake pads need changing, so I changed them and it went away!

Jules.

The little screecher thingy is scraping the disc to warn you your pads are worn out!
