As my zed has a burst water pipe and ive been to lazy/busy to change it ive decided to clear out the garage and park it up over winter as i had a lot of other things ive wanted to do to it any way and though this would be a great time/excuse to do so.

So my daily driver now is a 1989 shogun, however its not the fastest thing in the world and i only bought it to tow trailers and go through snow when it inevitably comes, and to have some offroad fun from time to time,

But... when i went to look for a couple of cars to buy for selling, i came across a very good condition scooby turbo in green, with some engine mods but standard outside, it drove fantastic and sounds amazing!! its got tons of receipts and a 1800 quid receipt for an engine rebuild at 20,000 miles ago which is a good thing as its covered 141,000. its s reg, tax'd and tested and after some haggling picked it up for 1025. (he was asking 1750!!!) which i think is a bargain.

Anyway, what i need to know is, it has a STi badge on the boot, how can i tell if its actually an sti? i mean it goes well, but ive never been in one before so wouldn't know the difference anyway, ive got no subaru experience to compare it with, and the logbook just says impreza 2000 AWD turbo?

Im collecting it up on the weekend so will post some pics.

I just thought it was a brilliant inbetweener, its still a 4x4 so it will cope with icy roads and light snow pretty well, yet its still fast so i still get some enjoyment out of driving. However when the zed is finished in the spring i'll be selling it, and if it is a genuine STi, i should make a pretty penny. if not i should make a small profit, but to be honest, i'd be happy with just my money back after using it for 4-6 months.

so if anyone can give me some tell tale signs of an STi i would be very great-full.

Thanks in advance

Simon.

Have a look at the 'Y' hose that goes into the under side of the intercooler, if it's a STI it will be an alloy casting and short straight hoses, if it's a WRX then it will be a black plastic moulded hose.

 and that will defiantly tell which one it is then?

thanks bud.

bloody swear filter is broken again lol

:tt2:

cannot wait to get my scooby. I have already bought all the bits for it :lol:

It might not even be a WRX. Is it an import??

If its a turbo 2000 then its a uk car, so not a wrx or an STI. An S reg STI would have a red top engine and 276bhp standard. A uk S reg will have around 208bhp i think.

Square or oblong rear plate?

But if it is a 2000 turbo, its a uk.

Just out of interest which is beat. Sti or WRX??

STI's were tuned from the factory WRX's.

nah its uk car, oh poo, it seemed quick enough on the test drive though, it has had boost jets and a ecu called ABC??? thats all it says on the receipt, ABC ECU, boost jets and mapping, cost comes to 650 quid.

so as standard there only 208bhp? thats kak. oh well, then maybe not a bargain after all, should of done my home work i suppose.

The UK has the plastic inlet like the wrx, if it has that then they've probably put and sti badge on a uk model. If its cast then its an sti.

I'd pay that for a uk one.

I prefer the uk ones. Saloon or hatch?

errrmmm?? saloon if a remember it right? i will post some pics on saturday, thats when im collecting it, no its defantly an uk car, and i didnt realize, but theres a lad in work with an STi, so i looked over his yesterday, well its much different, Bigger brakes, strut brace, STi embroided in the seats, Sti badge in the dash, plus the fact its an import.

Yes well im not too bothered, it does go well, and i have the zed for speed if thats what im after, so im happy enough

All scoobys are saloons, except for the new one.

The last of the classics 99reg + both STI and the WRX came with 280hp and 5.1 to 60 :)

Im going for the wrx because the sti has a closer ration gear box and is ment to be really noisy which is no good for becks.

so mine may be a 280 bhp after all?? or not?

No uk spec 208hp

jap Sti and Wrx both 280hp WRX were 240 bhp, Early ra was 260bhp, STI RED top were 276bhp

estates are 250hp Estates were the same as saloons...

Where you been reading all this?

god damn it, So approx with boost jet and some weird ecu do you rekon it may be pushing 240?

it has a tidy, not too loud full stainless system on her too.

Should be close.

They feel fast as standard anyway.

The power is always there, no need to rev it.

Ive always said, and impreza is the fastest car you need on the road. The way it makes it power, not much would beat it on the road.

I'd have another.

Where you been reading all this?

Its all on scooby.net and those were the offical figures for the Facelift classic

EH? I had a W reg 2000 uk that had 245 after a remap and decatThats because yours was a uk spec and there crap lol!!! WRX and STI are both 280hp from factory (99spec).

i had a import scooby for a while was a gr8 car and had a few mods i found it was quick but not not like a zed on full boost even so you you will be happy as an everyday driver as thay are quick enough to see off almost everything on the rd to be honest and with that gr8 noise when you put ya foot down you will love it
