Changing the gearbox oil on a early 1989 (G) zed. help needed!

Hi ..people are probably getting used to seeing my probs on this section of the club..sorry! lol

I just wonderd how i go about changing the gearbox fluid on my car.. its an early model ..registerd on a 1989 (G) and is a non turbo. think is the fairlady.

I heard there is no drain hole on these? its a matter on removing the sump and letting the fluid out?

Am i right ? looking at doing this tomorrow so any replies like i said before are much appreicated..thanks everyone for your time!..have a nice evening

If it hasnt got a sump plug, then its pumped or syphoned through the gearbox dip stick, which is where you would put new oil in too. You can get the syphon pipes with a valve on that you wiggle for it to work. Or take it to a garage with the facility to do it.

There are several litres of oil in the sump, so i wouldnt just go and undo all the nuts lol, you and everything else will be covered.

If you are unsure its wise to measure what you take out as a rough guide then check with the service info to see exactly how much should go in, too much oil can do damage as can too little.

Cheers John

Just release the lower cooler pipe where it enter`s the gearbox on the drivers side, the fluid can then darin slowly and can be caught in a suitable container with out to much fuss, once the level is low enough if you wish to remove the sump you can then without getting too messy.

The stainer can be removed and cleaned with the sump removed, and remember to replace the sump gasket.

The gearbox holds about 5 litres of oil, but there will be acouple of litres in the torque convertor that wont come out

No, Do as Jeff suggested, removing the lower oil cooler pipe to drain. If you just remove the sump, without draining, please video it :lol::lol:

do your self a favor, and don't ware anything you want to keep, gear box oil stinks to high heaven and is a bugger to get out in the wash. it will also contaminate anything else that goes in the washing machine with it......Oops :whistling:

What a dingbat lol, before i edited my post, i wrote left hand side, ie: looking from the front of the car, then i thought i would simplify the answer and instead of saying left, i wrote passenger side  never mind, im sure he will read the posts first
