...any body got any experience of replacing the rear rubber mount on an auto transmission. I ask because I've replaced the centre bearing, and rotated the prop to diff through 90 degree increments, and the vibrations are still there. It's worse after the car has been standing for a couple of days, which could suggests it's the rubber mount sagging (maybe it gets back into shape with use). I'm not sure whether it needs replacing as I've been told the auto mounts don't take the same stick as the manual mounts, so last much longer.

...any body got any experience, as it's an expensive part to replace if there's no improvement.

thanks

Its trial and error Jack. I changed mine and noticed a slight improvement. Yes, the auto mount does not experience the same degree of stick that the manual does however, the auto box is heavier so the mounts sink a little over time.

Its usually the props themselves that wear. A worn centre bearing is usually the result of a worn and out-of-balance prop. Did you have the prop refurbed the same time the bearing was replaced?

...when I replaced the centre bearing, the old one seemed in very good condition. There was a little improvement when the new one went in, but the vibes are (fundamentally) still there. I've rotated the prop/diff as it specifies in the workshop manual, but with little real effect. I'm hoping it's not the prop itself as I believe this is expensive to replace, so my next option is the auto trannie rubber mount. If replacing the mount will also not improve the vibes, then I'll save myself some money and learn to live with the vibrations. Mines a 90 jap import na.

...your comments would be appreciated.

many thanks

This is what I would do:- change the prop for a 1 piece. This completely eliminates the centre bearing altogether. The vibrations usually originate from the prop and are then transfered through the centre bearing which is bolted underneath the car.

Sell the newish centre bearing.

I believe someone found a company in Bristol who will make up a one peice for around £270 (check earlier posts).

Original Nissan prop is around £800 I think - not worth it!

If the tranny is sat on the original mount then I would change it - 10yrs+ with a very heavy gearbox sat on it! These things degrade over time.

Do the mount first. I feel this should be done anyway. If it does not improve, replace prop with a 1 peice example.

...thanks for the info and advice. The mount's favourite. I'll put it on the list and let you know how I get on. Anyone got a Auto gearbox rear rubber mount for sale?

thanks
