hi chaps . ive just changed my matrix over and my query is to do with the bottom pipe with the on/off valve . ive re-clipped the cable in place but the cable / valve is now solid . is the metal part of the cable supposed to slide freely inside the black casing to operate the valve . im wondering whether i may have kinked the cable somehow .

cheers guys

any suggestions please guys . its just blowing cold at the moment so im thinking the valve is trapped in the closed / almost closed position . ive topped up the cooling system and bled a bit of air out .

hello bud . yeah moves freely without the clip in place. im thinking that the higher you set the cabin temp the further the valve opens allowing more water through . at the moment though with the cable clipped in place its solid

Yep obviously a cable problem.-sounds daft but you haven't got the cable stroke wrong have you?-otherwise if it worked before, the cable is kinked/trapped.

IE-make sure the travel is full one way and fit the cable to suit, not explaining very well but I know what I mean! LOL!:blushing:

cheers jeff .

its all back together looking like that. on the end of the black cable casing where the clip goes , how much should the black casing go past the clip and where should the valve position be . the clip came off mine during the strip out so just fitted new matrix and clipped back up . is there a starting position , ie valve fully forward and half inch of black casing in front of clip (sort of thing).

Looking at the picture, in the heater matrix removal thread, the brass cover on the end of the cable sits in the clip, akin to brakes on a pushbike, the clip stops the cable moving when the wire inside slides back and forth.

theres nothing on the end of the cable graham . also the metal inside doesnt want to slide in the casing .

looking at that i,d say valve fully forward and about half inch gap from front of casing to clip . cheers graham

i just know tomorrow is gonna be a long day

cheers graham . i,ll have a look at that in the morn . a little tip from me is to make sure that clip dont come off during disassembly. theres a screw that holds the bracket on which holds the clip . i knocked mine off catching it with the screwdriver. go easy around this and you will save yourself the problems im having when you do yours . good luck and if you know a short skinny bloke with extra long thin arms hire him for the day.

Hello been working on mine today aswell, I took a pic of that part for you incase it helps to see on a right hand drive car:

I've managed to remove the clutch pedal and the stuff around the heater core. Just need to undo the bit through the engine bay which looks to be a pain, any advice for that?

Take a look at the link in thread 20 i posted, they have cut the pipes and reconnected using hose and jubilee clips, eliminates the pain of undoing the bolt in the firewall that holds the pipes in place.
